Bill Womack Rejoins the Orbx Team
Ex-Orbx developer now becomes current Orbx developer! Bill Womack is currently known for his stunning small airfields under the iBlueYonder banner, but before that, he worked extensively on many Orbx products. Now he’s going to be joining forces with Orbx yet again to continue delivering stunning airports for the community.
In a press release issued on both Orbx and iBlueYonder’s websites, the details of the new partnership will benefit everyone. All of Bill’s current projects will soon be available via your Orbx Direct account, along with added features using the power of ObjectFlow and PeopleFlow – free of charge. If you already own products via iBlueYonder’s website, then you will be able to do a licence transfer. However, if you wish to not do so, then you will still be able to download your iBlueYonder products from the store as usual.
Future projects from Bill and the iBlueYonder team will be only available via Orbx Direct, however updates and previews will continue to be shared on iBlueYonder’s website. What this means for the FlightBeam / iBlueYonder Portland airport is yet to be known. We’ve reached out to Bill to find out more.

Dreadmetis reacted to krazyk in ORBX outlines plans for XP11 in 2018
    From ORBX Forum:
    Hi everyone,

All you all know we released KCGX Meigs Field for X-Plane 11 yesterday, and it's proving to be a HOT seller, certainly on par or if not better than small to medium airports for our other platforms. So please allow me to say a big THANK YOU to the X-Plane user community for embracing "the new Orbx kid on the block" and I hope it has met your expectations! We don't have delusions of world domination but we hope to see many other FS developers embracing XP moving forward as well.

You may be wondering about the choice of Meigs Field as our debut. The reason is fairly simple - we hired a contractor to port this over a year ago as part of our evaluation of XP11 and to see what was involved. We then sat on the 80% completed work for various reasons as well as working on enhancements to the existing FSX/P3D/AFS2 versions to vastly expand the cityscape well into the suburban areas and add a larger photoreal terrain coverage. So basically, we've added the last 20% to make it on par with the other platforms and released it.

However, we have 2-3 more Orbx airport ports coming in a short while and also a new first-for-XPlane release; EGCB Barton Manchester Airport by Tony Wroblewski, which looks just ridiculously stunning I have to say!

(There are many more shots but I don't want to steal Tony's thunder - needless to say it looks gobsmackling good  )

    2018 X-Plane (sort of) Roadmap

We don't yet have a formal roadmap to announce yet but here is the rough plan:

Hire more XP experienced developers to add to those already recently joined Port our most popular small to medium airports to XP11 Potentially port some of our larger more complex airports and their attached 'micro-regions' Develop a photoreal Pacific Northwest region Port the PNW airports across to establish a bush-flyer's paradise Work with Ben Supnik and the guys at Laminar to try and add bone animations to the sim so we can add some Flow technologies Release more 'first-for-XPlane' titles (yes, we may end up porting XP airports back to FSX/P3D/AFS2, how about that eh?  ) Port across our Netherlands photoreal region Investigate further US regions Investigate a UK photoreal region with ported and brand new airports
Some pre-alpha shots of a UK region exploratory work:

What we don't plan to do:

Create an Orbx Global, openLC or Vector product; for now this is too ambitious in scope for the platform Create land class based regions; XP doesn't have seasons and we are not yet up to speed with the XP internals just yet
Hopefully this post will be welcomed by the XP community as a sign of our commitment to the platform. Orbx is morphing into a multi-platform FS developer and whilst we remain focused on our core sims (FSX/P3D) we also recognise that there are new sims emerging as choices for the FS community (XP/AFS2/FSW) and it makes good business sense to expand the scope of our offerings to them.

Dreadmetis reacted to TomcatUK in JF announces Thranda Design's Kodiak Quest G1000 now available for XP11
Just Flight have just announced the following is now available:
Exceptional model by Thranda (Dan Klaue) with Laminar-native G1000 and many new and exclusive features. The Quest Kodiak is the bush plane of the 21st century, capable of delivering payload or passengers in any part of the world!
Thranda's Quest Kodiak for X-Plane 11 includes an accurate G1000 simulation with moving map, an exceptional array of advanced FMOD sounds, superb interior and exterior reflections using full PBR features, dynamic Livery Editor and a fly-out pop-up menu featuring five menus.

Among the many features are a functional GPU, custom lighting throughout, accurate flight dynamics, extremely detailed panel with dynamic reflections, hideable cargo pod, engine failures and an electric tug to tow the aircraft.
    Special features

Current version 1.6 (last updated 2 Feb 2018) Major update for X-Plane 11.10+
     - G1000 GPS by LR
     - Completely upgraded sound to FMOD, for more immersion and more realism
     - Replaced all Thranda native scroll manipulators with X-Plane native ones, in anticipation of VR support
     - Made many menu items auto-save (to the extent that it makes sense to save those settings for the next flight)
     - Upgraded plugin to SASL 2.51, which improves stability and feature set. (e.g. now a plane crash bypasses an automatic SASL reload, so you can get back to flying faster)
     - Added function to be able to start the plane from cold and dark vs. engines running, at the flick of a switch (in the pop-up window) Auto updater for the duration of X-Plane 11! Superb reflections - inside and outside, using full PBR features Dynamic Livery Editor - create your new livery while in the sim! Comprehensive menu with per-passenger Weight and Balance Manager, audio controls, custom slew controls, livery selection, aircraft configuration etc. SOURCE INFO

Great news! Now Skyline and ORBX work together to convert ORBX sceneries for X-Plane 11!

Skyline Simulations (formerly Icarus Simulations) have announced that they’re teaming up with Orbx to bring their famed sceneries to the X-Plane platform.
In a very brief post on their Facebook page, Skyline Sim announced the collaboration with one simple line:
The announcement means that Orbx join an ever-growing list of traditionally P3D developers that have realised the potential for their products on the X-Plane platform.
Most notably, HiFi Sim announced their intentions to bring Activesky to X-Plane during a presentation at FlightSimCon last year. News surrounding that has been scarce since the announcement, but you’ll surely agree that 2018 is shaping up to be a big year for the X-Plane community.
FSElite has reached out to Skyline Sim and Orbx for further comment, and we’ll let you know if we hear anything more

A video of Larry R's upcoming, eagerly awaited, atmospherically beautiful, painstakingly modelled, freeware release, YRC Refuge Cove.

Just one issue I found in the beta, duplicated sound at Refuge Cove causing echo and frame rate issues, in this video but now fixed.

This video is quite tedious if you're not really interested in picking up landmarks in marginal weather to get to your destination, but for anyone who appreciates good old VFR flight using only the good old Mk I eyeball, it should be interesting enough.  Should be enough landmarks pointed out for anyone to get to Refuge Cove from the southern direction, for instance you could depart from Comox CCX6 or similar, fly NE until you identified Savaray Island and make your way to Refuge Cove from there.  Have fun when it is released!
