  1. Do something different today Make your next flight simulator purchase a donation ware purchase and change somebodies life. Who are we? We are a group of scenery enthusiasts from around the the world. We do this for fun not for commercial gain. We all share a common goal to increase the accuracy of the sim environment by re-creating missing platforms, airfields, heliports and finally airports. However, we also have another common goal, supporting our local communities and this is how "The Charity Scenery Project" was born from a love of flying and supporting. Craig The Founder: I am from London in the UK, married, keen diver and have kids. I have been flying in flight sim for many years. I remember the days when planes where just sticks on a green screen. I am more of a rotor pilot than a fixed wing pilot and have real life hours in both. I have been fortunate to see the hobby grow over time to crisp flight dynamics of today. The progression and journey still amazes me to this day and the future looks mind blowing with the recent introduction on VR. I will mainly be supporting the rotor world by making heliports and missing pads. But, never say never! I am always looking for talented and enthusiastic individuals to come and support the project. So if you are interested please do get in contact. About LAA London's Air Ambulance is a British registered charity that operates a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), dedicated to responding to serious trauma emergencies in and around London. Using a helicopter by day and rapid response vehicles by night, the service performs advanced medical interventions at the scene of the incident in life-threatening, time-critical situations. About The Royal London Hospital From its base at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, East London, a helicopter can reach any patient inside the M25 London orbital road, which acts as the service's catchment area, within 15 minutes. Missions commonly involve serious road traffic collisions, falls from height, stabbings and shootings, industrial accidents and incidents on the rail network. The team can perform advanced life-saving medical interventions, including open heart surgery, blood transfusion and anaesthesia, at the scene. The charity operates 24 hours a day, serving the 10 million people who live, work and travel within the M25. The service treats an average of 5 patients every day. 8. Mettar Simulations: 2018 And Beyond You may not know the name “Mettar Simulations“, but you likely know the main man behind that name very well. Matt Davies is well known in our community for his Twitch streams and YouTube channel (formerly going by the screen name Belynz, saving the P3D Tweak Assistant tool (better known as PTA) from being relegated to history by the previous owner and developer, while also giving life to the popular projectFLY flight log-book and dispatch web-app which started the chain of events that lead to the creation of Mettar Simulations. Matt has spoken freely about the plans for his company on his Twitch streams in the past, giving some details to his followers, but generally not going too far into detail. Thankfully though, he has released a statement via Facebook today giving us an insight as to what happens from here for Mettar. He starts off by describing the beginnings of the company, how it came to be, and details the team that he has on board. Continuing, he tells of the events that lead to the creation of the company, such as PTA, projectFLY, Simstall, and the start of his highly-anticipated A380 project. The overview that follows goes further into detail on these projects, such as where they’re at now, and what the plans for the future are. 10. From ORBX Forum: Hi everyone, All you all know we released KCGX Meigs Field for X-Plane 11 yesterday, and it's proving to be a HOT seller, certainly on par or if not better than small to medium airports for our other platforms. So please allow me to say a big THANK YOU to the X-Plane user community for embracing "the new Orbx kid on the block" and I hope it has met your expectations! We don't have delusions of world domination but we hope to see many other FS developers embracing XP moving forward as well. You may be wondering about the choice of Meigs Field as our debut. The reason is fairly simple - we hired a contractor to port this over a year ago as part of our evaluation of XP11 and to see what was involved. We then sat on the 80% completed work for various reasons as well as working on enhancements to the existing FSX/P3D/AFS2 versions to vastly expand the cityscape well into the suburban areas and add a larger photoreal terrain coverage. So basically, we've added the last 20% to make it on par with the other platforms and released it. However, we have 2-3 more Orbx airport ports coming in a short while and also a new first-for-XPlane release; EGCB Barton Manchester Airport by Tony Wroblewski, which looks just ridiculously stunning I have to say! (There are many more shots but I don't want to steal Tony's thunder - needless to say it looks gobsmackling good ) 2018 X-Plane (sort of) Roadmap We don't yet have a formal roadmap to announce yet but here is the rough plan: Hire more XP experienced developers to add to those already recently joined Port our most popular small to medium airports to XP11 Potentially port some of our larger more complex airports and their attached 'micro-regions' Develop a photoreal Pacific Northwest region Port the PNW airports across to establish a bush-flyer's paradise Work with Ben Supnik and the guys at Laminar to try and add bone animations to the sim so we can add some Flow technologies Release more 'first-for-XPlane' titles (yes, we may end up porting XP airports back to FSX/P3D/AFS2, how about that eh? ) Port across our Netherlands photoreal region Investigate further US regions Investigate a UK photoreal region with ported and brand new airports Some pre-alpha shots of a UK region exploratory work: What we don't plan to do: Create an Orbx Global, openLC or Vector product; for now this is too ambitious in scope for the platform Create land class based regions; XP doesn't have seasons and we are not yet up to speed with the XP internals just yet Hopefully this post will be welcomed by the XP community as a sign of our commitment to the platform. Orbx is morphing into a multi-platform FS developer and whilst we remain focused on our core sims (FSX/P3D) we also recognise that there are new sims emerging as choices for the FS community (XP/AFS2/FSW) and it makes good business sense to expand the scope of our offerings to them. 14. A news update has announced testing to start in February with a release in March? This from their site: Although we missed our original target of a 2017 release, the simulator is still under heavy development, and on-track for a release the first quarter of 2018. We spent more time than expected developing FlyInside P3D4, and improving compatibility in FlyInside XP. This may be a little optimistic as Beta testing only starts in February. 18. I am very proud to introduce VSKYLABS major project for 2018: The VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project Introduction The VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project is designed especially for Virtual Reality (VR) experience in the rich and detailed 3D environment of X-Plane flight simulator. Along with an advanced and comprehensive Flight Dynamics and systems simulation, it is including a high-definition, fully animated representation for both the exteriors and interiors sections of the Solar Impulse 2 aircraft. It is a fully operational virtual Solar Impulse 2 aircraft simulation in which the round-the-world flight paths of the real Solar Impulse 2 aircraft could be recreated with realistic flight dynamics characteristics and relevant operation and mission-related considerations in the amazing, dynamic world of X-Plane. Although highly accurate in every aspect, for some of the real-world Solar Impulse 2 technologies and systems, the VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project will not include a 1:1 detailed simulation, and it is to be replaced with a comprehensive and plausible solution featured within the detailed systems and avionics simulation of X-Plane. The VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project was acknowledged by 'Solar Impulse'. However, it is not affiliated with the Solar Impulse foundation. Project's Genesis - The VSKYLABS 'Conatra-Ventus' I've always been fascinated by renewable energy and clean-Earth technologies, especially when it is combined with aerospace and aviation applications. As a thrilled enthusiast of the Solar Impulse project, I've decided to make my first experimental steps in better understanding some the challenges and aspects of designing and flying a 'Clean Energy' efficient aircraft. X-Plane was the perfect test-bed for my experiments. In 2015, I've created the VSKYLABS Contra-Ventus Prototype aircraft for X-Plane. It is a fictional aircraft. I derived its general aerodynamic design features from the MIT human-powered, record braking aircraft - the Daedalus 88, along with the implementation of electric power propulsion to execute periodic powered climb-outs and unpowered descents, using the propeller's windmilling to re-charge the batteries while soaring in the skies in prolonged glide periods (practically using wing energy which is a "conversion" of the potential energy gained in the powered climb). The design concept was to experiment and research the practical idea of electric powered flight coupled with wind energy utilization for a 24 hours battery cells charging capabilities. The 'Contra-Ventus' is more of a concept demonstrator and educational tool for experiencing some of the fascinating aspects of Energy management, aerodynamics and flight envelope limitations. Getting deeper - The birth of the VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 project I was so fascinated with the outcome of the 'Contra-Ventus' project in X-Plane, and right after completion and many enjoyable exploration sorties, I felt ready to begin my experiments and development of a more complex electric-powered simulation model in X-Plane. It was the Solar Impulse 2 aircraft. It was a completely self-learning and experimenting, "backyard" development effort which lasted, in-and-out, for almost two years now. Time went by and I found myself having a pretty advanced project in my hands. X-Plane 11 was released along the way, and up with its updated versions that included a more thorough electrical systems simulation definitions for me to explore, I made additional progress. The Virtual Reality "Knock-out" trigger While developing the VSKYLABS Scheibe SF-25C Falke project, X-Plane 11.20 came into the picture with its native VR capabilities. The development of the SF-25C turned its focus on VR design and usability. I was so impressed with the VR experience! As a Solar Impulse enthusiast, I was very familiar with an inspiring video in which I saw so many times, called: "Solar Impulse 2: An Exclusive Insight into Life Onboard | WIRED" in which Dr. Bertrand Piccard (the initiator and co-pilot, with André Borschberg, of the Solar Impulse project), explained how he lives and operates the Solar Impulse 2 as he crosses the Atlantic ocean during a 5-days flight. It was clear that I must NOW take my "backyard" project of the Solar Impulse 2 and get it done ASAP in order to virtually (VR) be able to sit in the Solar Impulse 2 cockpit with a fully detailed and interactive 3D environment while crossing the virtual Atlantic ocean in X-Plane! I made contact with the Solar Impulse foundation and got the approval to proceed with my project as a VSKYLABS design model for X-Plane, bringing the excitement of using, understanding and "feeling" the Solar Impulse 2 aircraft and its mission out in the open. Project Schedule This project had changed some of the priorities in the VSKYLABS planned road-map for 2018, pushing down some planned projects to be waiting for its completion. February 2018 will be dedicated to updating the entire VSKYLABS fleet with VR capabilities, and to complete the VSKYLABS DC-3/C-47 Flying Lab Project expected update for version v2.7. The main focus in March/April 2018 will be channeled to the VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project. The 2-years project is already in a pretty advanced stage, so hopefully, I expect its completion and release around April 2018. Stay tuned as this page will include development news and other updates LINK TO SOURCE: http://www.vskylabs.com/2018/01/vskylabs-solar-impulse-2-project.html
