  1. sparks_smudge liked a post in a topic by eaim1973 in Who Is the Mysterious New ‚ÄúParallel 42‚ÄĚ Presenting at FlightSimExpo?
Come on Ivana Fly spill the beans to us who frequent the Skylounge.ūüėŹ ¬† Since the official FlightSimExpo speaker list was revealed, I have been curious as to who¬†‚ÄúParallel 42‚Ä̬†is. Googling the name brought no results, nor did typing in random URLs associated to that name. With my curiosity piqued as to who this mysterious developer is, and what possible product they could announce, I started to dig a little deeper. I am now confident I have figured out who they are and what type of product will be coming from them.
One of the perks of being a media partner at FlightSimExpo is the ability to have access to a confidential list of exhibitors and their contact details. It is something many agree to and is in aid of opening lines of communication with these people ahead of times (to book interviews). With that data in hand, I checked out who was behind the team at Parallel 42. A familiar name popped up, but it wasn’t an exact match to who I was expecting.
Then came along the YouTube teaser released only a few hours ago. The teaser was a very short clip of a box, with a momentary flash of an iPad screen. The voiceover at the beginning is what then gave it away to me:¬†‚ÄúHey, it‚Äôs Ivana Fly‚Ķ‚Ä̬†‚Äď I instantly recognised that as a familiar identity and then it all came together.

A bit of digging later and my hunch is confirmed.
    Parallel 42 is a brand new company developing a¬†brand new¬†utility called¬†‚ÄúThe Skypark‚ÄĚ.
Now knowing what I know, it was time to contact my sources and see what was happening. I got a phone call pretty quickly and I am pleased to now confirm some exclusive details about who exactly Parallel 42 are and what The Skypark is.
    Who is Parallel 42?
They are a team of four people from within the community. They have experience in community management, content creation, as well as being part of teams who have made some of the most used add-ons within the community. They already have plenty of knowledge and experience in the simulation field, so they’ll understand what simmers are looking for in a product.
What Do We Know About The Skypark?
I can confirm that The Skypark will be a downloadable tool for at least Windows Desktop and iOS devices. As for Mac and Android, I haven’t been given any confirmation at this point.
On tablet devices, it will be called The Skypad.
    *enhanced frame from the teaser
During my investigation, I also came across the desktop installer. Sadly, I couldn’t get any further since I didn’t have any login credentials, nor do I know how to create one. However, even installing the application was very neat. The way the colours dance over the UI was very cool. You could even log in as the installer was acquiring all the necessary details.
    When Will We Learn More?
Sadly, to learn anything else, we’re going to all have to wait until FlightSimExpo. Just as the teaser video said, all will be revealed on Saturday, June 8th @ 13:25 EST in The Right Seat conference room. Will we see you there?
FSElite will be live streaming the entire thing on our official FlightSimExpo 2019 hub. [Link coming soon]
    Any teasers?
We were sent this little tease for you to enjoy.
(This is just one of MANY features, I have been told…)

Duo of Active Sky Updates from HiFi SimTech

HiFi SimTech aren’t slowing down with making sure their products are given updates based on the community’s feedback. Over the past couple of days, both Active Sky XP (ASXP) and Active Sky for Prepar3D V4 (ASP4) were given updates which brought new fixes and a few new features to the API.
For ASXP, Hifi has adjusted the text for the X-Plane turbulence override to be a little more clear regarding some of the data, fixed issues related to in-sim time and also implemented a minimum X-Plane version check system so that if the software discovers it’s below version 11.26, it will shut down ensuring users don’t experience issues. The full change log is at the bottom of this post.
On the other side, ASP4 has been in open-beta testing for a little while. This new release (B6909) is a official version which adds P3DV4.4 stability, added new API functionality for access things like wind direction, speed and turbulence along with various adjustments to wind sheer positioning, voice ATIS and more.
Both updates are available right now via HiFi’s website.
If you’re reading this before December 23rd 2018, then you can enter to win a free copy of Active Sky XP via our raffle. Otherwise, you can buy it from a range of stores including SimMarket and Just Flight.

    ASP4 Full Change Log (B6909)
Fixed problem with XGauge display ‚ÄúPRE‚ÄĚ button toggle in TOPS mode where display would not properly show echo tops Fixed issue in interlayer aloft interpolation logic that might result in wind direction/speed inconsistencies at airports with elevations near surface/aloft layer boundaries Added new API functionality for accessing ambient wind direction, speed and turbulence Updated API documentation Adjusted wind shear positioning logic for increased dynamics Adjusted voice ATIS/flightwatch feature to include readback of visibility in meters, when METAR originally provided in meters vs. SM Added wx download corruption checksum testing and proper notification/recovery with force to offline mode allowing another attempt without crash/exception or potential future startup errors Added additional handling when wx file is corrupt for any reason Attempted fix for DNS-related issues in rare cases Adjusted Privacy Policy form/handling to prevent download errors from causing inability to continue (will now retry on next session) ‚Äď Made Accept button more visible ‚Äď Added 1-minute reminder to press accept button ‚Äď Adjusted form size Fixed API issue regarding ambient turbulence enum P3D v4 compatibility updates ASXP Full Change Log (B6927)
Adjusted options text for XP turb override to be a litle more clear regarding only surface conditions data, not actual winds experienced, being limited in this mode Fixed discrepancy in voice flightwatch option description regarding com1/com2 use (you can use either radio, as long as it is enabled for listen mode in your intercom) UI improvements during sign-in process to prevent whitespace/trailing characters in some fields Implemented minimum X-Plane version checking (11.26) and warning/shutdown if below minimum version Fixed issue with mode setting when shutting down ASXP and X-Plane is still running Fixed problem with some ‚Äústeam/normal hybrid‚ÄĚ installations causing potential crashing issues Fixed issue related to GMT/local time when using Force to Sim Time option SOURCE INFO

Leonardo Softhouse FlythemaddogX MD-82 Updated (SP1b351)

The news I know many of you have been waiting for: Leonardo Softhouse has updated their FlythemaddogX MD-82 for both 32-bit simulators and 64-bit sims. As we previously covered, the new update brings a wealth of new features and bug fixes. One of those updates for the P3D v4.4 version is the inclusion of PBR materials on the exterior of the aircraft as well as some native PBR liveries.
The other key update this new version brings is the enhanced icing simulation. If you leave your aircraft in cold conditions, snow and ice will build up on your aircraft, which impact the aerodynamics of the aircraft. Realistic hold over times after de-icing will also be simulated, and the 64-bit version also integrates Active Sky and GSX Level 2 for icing simulation. Furthermore, the P3Dv4.x version will enable users to visually see icing on their aircraft.

  21. sparks_smudge liked a post in a topic by Noodle in Prepar3d V5 musings
So on the cast yall spoke on what could come from a V5 of Prepar3d. The most sensible thing to me is to update the engine. Having more FPS is going to do what lets be honest. All of the things you mentioned that have been available in the other competitor sims have been available for sometime and now V4.4 has brought those things in and its great.  But to go down the path of omg I need more frames isnt necessary when the bulk of users cant sustain over 40fps with good scenery/graphics settings for a solid experience.
The base engine is still limited in the way it performs and doing some "tweaks" to say oh look at me 100fps doesnt mean squat if the sliders have to come down to a significant level to do it.  As it stands, anyone could feasibly get over 100fps right now but again that requires you to have a monitor with the refresh rate to sustain it which means gasp....monitor upgrades and drop the sliders.  Additionally your GPU is going to have to work either harder or not at all to get to that point.
It has been said that in the sims 30fps is sufficient and to "some" extent I can agree but ideally I feel that 45-60 fps allows for a more fluid representation of what your seeing without having drastic performance issues. Now unless you are running on say a SSD the load times for scenery/graphic draw can be reduced alot but in the end the engine itself isnt all that great.
Rewrite the engine code or get something new but to say OMG we need 100fps isnt worth it at all for this sim or the competitor sims...again, excluding DCS because this type of flying doesnt require it UNLESS your one of the many people out there who want to extend their epeens and showoff. Its not say a shooter game that requires you to sustain 60fps or better to have the great gameplay experience and the flight sims dont require the century mark of FPS to have a great flight experience.
So rewrite the engine or get a new one which will allow anyone with more current hardware specs to at a minimum run the sim (Prepar3d) at mid slider to higher settings and have a fluid experience without jaggies, freezing etc as the scenery/graphics load. That to me would be the holy grail for Prepar3d and really make it shine.
