  8. As long-standing governmental airport and Luftwaffe facility, the Airport Cologne/Bonn is one of Germany’s major airports – it’s not without reason bearing the name of the first German chancellor Konrad Adenauer. This new scenery developed by Jo Erlend Sund sets new standards in level of detail for P3D V4.The airport comes with a large photo scenery surrounding of approx. 1000 km² and was recreated with high-quality 3D models and photorealistic textures. Its seasonal adaptations and custom winter textures make it shine all year long. Around the parking positions you’ll find lots of ground equipment and clutter objects, exemplifying the developer’s attention to detail put into this scenery. The already numerous animations, of e.g. the service vehicles, passengers, or wind socks, can be further expanded upon with the use of SODE – which then also moves jetways and doors in a realistic way. Using the built-in configuration tool allows you to adapt a lot of options to your specific needs, so the performance does not have to play second fiddle behind the incredible level of detail. 15. Aerosoft Preview A330 Professional in Lufthansa Livery While many were pleased to see the Aersoft A330 Professioal being shown off, some were less than thrilled seeing it in the same DragonAir livery nearly every time it was shown off, and quite understandably so. That changes today with a “small Friday update” from Aerosoft developer Stefan Hoffmann, where he shows off his current work on the Lufthansa-skinned A330! 16. Aerosoft Release More Cologne Bonn (Köln/Bonn) Previews Aerosoft announced the development of Cologne Bonn (Köln/Bonn) EDDK Airport back in October 2017 and they’ve since been releasing eye-candy development previews and updates for us over on the forum thread. Along with the previews, the developer, Jo Erlend, has mentioned that we are to expect some more news regarding the scenery this week. In the previews, you notice the attention paid to the immense level of detail on the ramp, objects, terminal and ground markings. There even are 3D characters featured inside of the detailed terminal interior. Going back through the thread, there’s mention from Jo Erlend that the Prepar3D v4 version will be released before Cologne is brought to older platforms such as FSX and Prepar3D v3 as it will need to be reworked due to being beyond the scope of any 32bit platform’s memory capacities. While this scenery is obviously being developed with P3D v4 specifically in mind, X-Plane users shouldn’t worry as Cologne Airport will be ported over to the platform in the near future as it was mentioned on the thread by Aerosoft’s Product Manager, Jan Depenbusch. 21. After a long wait and many delays, Aerosoft has released the A320/A321 Professional for Prepar3D v4.3. The new release is a complete overhaul of the previous Airbus A320/A321 that was released for FSX and earlier Prepar3D versions a number of years ago. While the product has been completely re-written, Aerosoft say that the same basic idea of the product remains – an aircraft where simulation of flying is the primary goal, with aircraft systems being secondary to be used as tools only. Keen Airbus fans will have no doubt purchased the A318/A319 package that was released a couple of months ago, and anyone who bought these in the A320 Family Professional bundle will now have the ability to download and install the A320/A321. The bad news for these purchasers is that the eagerly awaited Connected Flight Deck v2 is still not yet implemented, with the aim for this feature’s introduction still set for the SP1 update. The feature list for an aircraft like this is simply just too large to summarise, so click through to the full article to see the complete list. Head to the Aerosoft store to pick up the A320/A321 for $60.99, or grab the A320 Family Professional bundle for $80.99. 22. Aerosoft Announce Geneva X-Plane Aerosoft confirmed that a Geneva for P3DV4 has been in development for a while. However, on Monday (sorry for being late!), Aerosoft announced that they’ll be bringing the scenery to X-Plane 11 also! Developed by Omar Masroor, the product will take full advantage of the tools and techniques within the simulator. 23. In a move that surprised exactly nobody, Aerosoft decided to delay their upcoming A320/A321 Professional again. The scheduled release is now set for Monday, September 10th instead of the previously announced September 6th. The reason for this delay was given by Mathijs Kok. According to his statement, there are some things that he still wants to include and the adjustments to the shop software need to be verified. He didn’t go in to further detail about what he still wants to include. Whether the aircraft will actually release on Monday still remains to be seen, as Aerosoft has a bit of a history delaying this project that was originally slated for August 2017. But, until Aerosoft decides to release it, at least we have this nice preview to look at. 24. We are currently working on Geneva Airport as an all new development for XPlane 11. Since the scenery is made from scratch, it will take advantage of all XPlane 11 features available. The XPlane 11 Version is done by Omar Masroor; There will also be a version for P3Dv4. The XPlane 11 version of the scenery features a custom terrain mesh that has been developed from an actual digital elevation model. It has a planar resolution of 5 metres and an altimetric resolution of 5 centimetres. In comparison, X-Plane 11's default terrain mesh has a planar resolution of 90 metres and an altimetric resolution of 1 metre. The mesh has been developed using a custom solution—these results are not possible with tools such as MeshRemexe. In the attached video, notice how the shadow of the aircraft warps during approach as it passes over varying terrain height. You can also see the 'cut' between the custom and default meshes (which will be fixed in the release version, of course): The custom terrain mesh is most noticeable on short final to Runway 23. There is a large dip in the terrain just before the start of the runway. There is an array of radar reflectors along this dip that helps aircrafts' radar altimeters from getting confused. These reflectors are not yet modelled in this preview but will be present in the release version. The custom mesh will also receive finishing touches and be properly integrated with the surrounding default mesh. Also, unlike X-Plane 11's default mesh, the paved manoeuvering areas of the custom mesh are not mirror-smooth but have a subtle-yet-noticeable bumpiness to them. The video shows the effect of this once the aircraft is taxiing after exiting the runway. Notice how the wing is not perfectly still but slightly swaying up and down, just like when taxiing in the real world. Another special feature of the XPlane 11 version is custom AutoGate jetways. These are visually far superior to the stock jetways that come with the AutoGate Kit. Not just that, but the animation is also far superior. The custom animation is mathematically derived and physically accurate with 10 different moving parts. As an example, the wheels not only turn but the entire wheel axle also pivots along its joint to keep the wheels perfectly matched to the ground. Moreover, there is not just one or two different jetway models used for all the gates. Instead, each gate has its own specifically-animated and positioned jetway, resulting in 16 individually tailored jetway models that fit their gate perfectly. These are all expected features of the scenery: • 0.30 m resolution orthoimagery • Custom terrain mesh with 5.00 m planar & 0.05 m altimetric resolution • AutoGate passenger boarding bridges, Safedock A-VDGSs and marshallers • Complete taxiway route network for use by ATC and AI aircraft • Native X-Plane 11 ground service vehicles with ground route network • Static aircraft toggled on/off by the 'Draw Parked Aircraft' checkbox • Glass and pavement reflections • Volumetric grass • Road network with animated cars • World Traffic v3 and X-Life v4 compatibility The attached screenshots show a work-in-progress preview of the special features. 25. If things still go according to plan, we are 3 days away from the release of the Aerosoft A320/321 Professional for Prepar3D V4. After months of updates, release date changes and development, the team are preparing to release the aircraft. To help build up interest in the product, seasoned Aerosoft trailer producer Jeroen Doorman has provided us with a brand new promotional trailer showcasing off the aircraft. The 3 minute trailer will showcase some of the new features added to the aircraft, the changes to the interior modelling and more. As said, the current plan is to release on September 6th.
