  4. JULY 11TH, 2019 – DEVELOPMENT UPDATE As the team enters the dog days of summer, we’ve been hard at work putting the finishing touches on many of the big updates we’re planning to share toward the end of summer. Our excitement continues to build, as does our impatience to share this information with you. So we press forward counting down the days until we can open the hangar doors and dive into the details with you. There are many very important topics being discussed in the community (e.g. New Flight Model/IFR-VFR Flight/Weather Simulation Depth/VR Support, etc.). The team is constantly monitoring the feedback/suggestions being discussed and please know that many of these topics and more, will be covered thoroughly in near future updates. In the meantime, here’s a work-in-progress screenshot, and confirmation that the Insider Program will be starting in early August as part of our development roadmap kickoff. On July 25th, we will be releasing another update on our plans for August and September. Until next time, know that the team is excited and anxious to share more information with you. 7. Microsoft have announced a new Flight Simulator at E3. New Microsoft Flight Simulator Looks Uncannily Like Real Life Cecilia D'Anastasio 19 minutes ago Filed to: MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2.2K 31 E3 2019It's time for the biggest gaming show of the year. We've got articles, videos, podcasts and maybe even a GIF or two. PrevNextView All Announced today and releasing in 2020, the upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator looks greater than fiction. Apparently, its hyper-realistic graphics are a product of AI technology and satellite data. “From light planes to wide-body jets, fly highly detailed and stunning aircraft in an incredibly realistic world,” the trailer’s description reads. “Create your flight plan and fly anywhere on the planet. Enjoy flying day or night and face realistic, challenging weather conditions.” Some of the shots we saw in today’s E3 announcement trailer are more Planet Earth than your typical flight simulator fare. There are even giraffes. On overhead shots of Egypt and New York, each little cloud puff and ocean wave stood out, displaying the sort of graphics that might actually impress the kind of people who don’t typically care about that kind of thing. 8. Come on Ivana Fly spill the beans to us who frequent the Skylounge.😏 Since the official FlightSimExpo speaker list was revealed, I have been curious as to who “Parallel 42” is. Googling the name brought no results, nor did typing in random URLs associated to that name. With my curiosity piqued as to who this mysterious developer is, and what possible product they could announce, I started to dig a little deeper. I am now confident I have figured out who they are and what type of product will be coming from them. One of the perks of being a media partner at FlightSimExpo is the ability to have access to a confidential list of exhibitors and their contact details. It is something many agree to and is in aid of opening lines of communication with these people ahead of times (to book interviews). With that data in hand, I checked out who was behind the team at Parallel 42. A familiar name popped up, but it wasn’t an exact match to who I was expecting. Then came along the YouTube teaser released only a few hours ago. The teaser was a very short clip of a box, with a momentary flash of an iPad screen. The voiceover at the beginning is what then gave it away to me: “Hey, it’s Ivana Fly…” – I instantly recognised that as a familiar identity and then it all came together. A bit of digging later and my hunch is confirmed. Parallel 42 is a brand new company developing a brand new utility called “The Skypark”. Now knowing what I know, it was time to contact my sources and see what was happening. I got a phone call pretty quickly and I am pleased to now confirm some exclusive details about who exactly Parallel 42 are and what The Skypark is. Who is Parallel 42? They are a team of four people from within the community. They have experience in community management, content creation, as well as being part of teams who have made some of the most used add-ons within the community. They already have plenty of knowledge and experience in the simulation field, so they’ll understand what simmers are looking for in a product. What Do We Know About The Skypark? I can confirm that The Skypark will be a downloadable tool for at least Windows Desktop and iOS devices. As for Mac and Android, I haven’t been given any confirmation at this point. On tablet devices, it will be called The Skypad. *enhanced frame from the teaser During my investigation, I also came across the desktop installer. Sadly, I couldn’t get any further since I didn’t have any login credentials, nor do I know how to create one. However, even installing the application was very neat. The way the colours dance over the UI was very cool. You could even log in as the installer was acquiring all the necessary details. When Will We Learn More? Sadly, to learn anything else, we’re going to all have to wait until FlightSimExpo. Just as the teaser video said, all will be revealed on Saturday, June 8th @ 13:25 EST in The Right Seat conference room. Will we see you there? FSElite will be live streaming the entire thing on our official FlightSimExpo 2019 hub. [Link coming soon] Any teasers? We were sent this little tease for you to enjoy. (This is just one of MANY features, I have been told…) SOURCE INFO DEVELOPER POST LINK : NEWS SITE ARTICLE LINK : Who Is the Mysterious New "Parallel 42" Presenting at FlightSimExpo? | FSElite FSELITE.NET Since the official FlightSimExpo speaker list was revealed, I have been curious as to who "Parallel 42" is. 9. My longest title so far I'm pretty sure ! So I received an email from Deadstick Bush Flight Sim today that invites me to fill a form for the incoming closed beta phase, which is before the Early Access phase on Steam obviously. I asked if it can be shared and guess what : yes ! I must say first that the team is looking for motivated testers, that can report, critic, share ideas etc so the team/ the project can evolve in the right direction with our help. Whether you are a gamer or a simmer, you play with an xBox controller or with a fully fleshed cockpit, there will be plenty to test ! I cannot say if there will be a NDA but I'm trying to get the intell from Chris or any member of the tram as quick as possible to fill that gap. Note that you will need a Discord account, and join the Deadstick channel, and it would be nice, even if you do not intend to participate, that you add the title on your Steam wishlist : it'll help the team on referencing. The form link : Deadstick - Closed Beta Interest Sign-Up DOCS.GOOGLE.COM If you are interested in helping test pre-release versions of Deadstick - Bush Flight Simulator ahead of the launch please fill in your details below. 11. VATSIM, for those new, can be quite a daunting prospect. Potentially hundreds of people trying to get involved at any time in an unfamiliar environment trying something new for the first time. I personally remember my first time and I was so freaked out, I switched it off and vowed to never use it again. Luckily some advice from friends and a handful of YouTube tutorials later, I was flying online. I’m sure most will tell you that flying online is both rewarding and fun. To encourage more people to get involved with the fun, VATSIM are hosting the First Wings event. From 23:00z on April 27th until 02:00z on the 28th, VATSIM controllers in Minneapolis and Chicago will be online to help those inexperienced users to understand and get involved with online flying. Rochester, Rockford, Eastern Iowa and Duluth International will all be open for business to practice and get involved. The controllers will be there on hand to help you every step of the way. There’s no such thing as a silly question as the whole idea of the event is to train and teach. The only requirement is that you know how to handle and fly the plane you’re taking up in the virtual skies. Closer to the time, exact routes and a briefing pack will be sent out to give people the full details they will need. In addition to the controllers controlling, there will be a host of experienced pilots and air traffic controllers on hand to support and answer questions. VATSIM are asking that if you’re experienced and well versed that you do not fly as part of the event. This really is a space designed for those looking to fly without the pressure of hundreds of others all trying to take part. Below are some recommended routes for the event, if you choose to take part. The full event page can be found on the VATSIM website. As a reminder, it will take place at 23:00z on April 27th. 12. UK2000 Scenery previously announced that they would be taking the rest of 2019 off to build brand new tools to enhance future products. However, they have revised that to announce they will be bringing a few updates to existing products as they bring their new tools to life. Whilst that was the plan originally, UK2000 Scenery have reviewed that and stated that they will instead adopt a more ‘evolution’ approach rather than a full revolution. What this means is that they will be going back through some of their existing airports and will update them to include new multi-material ground textures all in 2K and DDS format. Other improvements will also be included. As the development of the new tools continues, they will also bring new updates to the library going forward. The work on these new updates will start soon and we’ll start to see the new updates as of Summer 2019. In terms of which airports, nothing at this time has been confirmed. 15. VATSIM swift Client Available in Open Beta After six years of development, the swift client is now available to the public to use. It is a brand new client supported by VATSIM, which is cross-compatible with all major flight simulator platforms including Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Lockheed Martin Prepar3D and X-Plane. FlightGear has also been included in the mix of supported simulators. Further to the compatibility with the modern sims, Windows, Linux and MacOS are also supported. The swift client has been designed to be a “very powerful client” and easy to use. It will work to bring a cohesive online experience regardless of the platform you’re using or flying on. With the online database storing detailed information about all possible AI and flyable models, liveries, aircraft types and airports, it should mean no more model mismatch. It should mean regardless of what you’re using, others on the network will see you correctly. The development team have also worked with vPilot to ensure that information regarding aircraft animation is also exchanged. This means you will be able to see landing lights, flaps, gear and more all animate and switch on/off accurately as the user completes the task across any simulator. To ensure that development will continue, the swift client is fully open source. You can see the source code on the development page. The team are encouraging people with an interest in supporting development, fixing bugs or implement ideas to visit and get involved. The idea is that the swift client will become something really owned by the community. The public beta phase, which is what this product is currently in, has been tested by Alpha testers who have reported a positive experience. However, there are still some bugs, features missing and also a few user-interface problems which are being worked on. Feedback from the community will help to resolve some of these issues. If you would like to participate in the Open Beta of swift, you can head to the swift project page, where you can find documentation and download links.
