  5. I think the Pilot in question needs more practice on his Majestic Q400 on P3D!!!! Image copyrightPA The pilot of a Flybe plane that plummeted 500ft (152m) in 18 seconds had selected the wrong autopilot settings, an investigation has found. Some 44 passengers and four crew were on board the Belfast City to Glasgow flight on 11 January when the plane "pitched nose-down" towards the ground. An Air Accidents Investigation Branch report said warnings alerted the pilot, who fixed the error at 928ft (283m). Flybe said it had implemented "remedial actions quickly in response". The report said that autopilot was engaged when the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 turboprop plane reached an altitude of 1,350 ft. The plane climbed to 1,500ft, but then pitched and "descended rapidly" because autopilot was set with a target altitude of 0ft. Staff reported that the plane "had become visual with the ground", and the report said the aircraft had reached a maximum rate of descent of 4,300ft/min. The 60-year-old pilot "responded almost immediately" to cockpit alarms and disconnected the autopilot, the report found. Serious aircraft 'near-misses' double Light aircraft crash caused by cramp The report said "several safety actions" had been taken by Flybe since the incident, including revisions to simulator training and amendments to the taxi checklist. A statement from Flybe said the operator "maintains a rigorous approach to ensuring the very highest flying standards are maintained". "Flybe implemented remedial actions quickly in response to the incident and our training and procedures have been amended to minimise the risk of a reoccurrence," it said. 8. From Facebook: ***IMPORTANT UPDATE*** The Xtreme range will end in 2019-2020 During the past 10 years or so we have created most of the main UK airports. The Xtreme range has been popular and enjoyed by thousands of users. But it's now time to move on, and the Xtreme range will slowly come to an end. The Last new airport made using this system will be Bournemouth Xtreme which is due Jan-Feb 2019, there will also be a refresh for Luton and Bristol plus a few updates during 2019 for this product range. It will continue to be sold and supported for many many years to come, but no new updates after 2020. The Future ----------- Many users have ask the question "when are you going to increase resolution and use multi texture materials?" The move to higher demanding graphics is not without performance issues on the flightsim, but we believe we have reached the point that the old methods we use need to be replaced and modern PCs can cope. This is not a simple task, the current method heavily uses simple 'raster' copy and paste methods to create what we want, but this method does not scale to higher resolution. You need to take a 'substance' creation workflow, which is more time consuming with multiple steps. Very little of our old models or textures would work in this new workflow, so everything and we mean everything has to be made from scratch. This new system means taking longer to make a single airport than the older method, and the question is then, is it worth it?. It's not worth it unless you create an optimised workflow for everything, every task has to be looked at and if necessary create new tools and solutions to increase productivity. All of this takes time, and we suspect NO new airports will be made in 2019 as we will have spend most of it making tools. Business will carry on as normal, the odd minor update will still happen to the Xtreme range, but any big airport changes or new airport/remake will not be made until at least 2020. What will be this new airport range be called? We are going to give up on using words like 'Xtreme', 'mega' or 'ultimate' it's all getting very silly. So it will just have the airport name and the year like "UK2000 Inverness 2020" so you can clearly tell what year the airport was made and based upon. 9. Bill Womack, who needs no introduction, has put up an offer you may not be able to refuse - if you're interested in learning professional scenery development and make a pretty penny in the future. All you need to know is that if you do get accepted, you'll be tutored by one of the biggest names in flight simulation. Here's a little teaser (click on the link below for the full write-up): Back in the day, many trades had a tradition of apprenticeship. Those with a desire to learn a skill were paired with experienced craftspeople. The apprentice got to learn a trade first-hand, and the person they were apprenticed to got an eager helper to speed along projects in return. For the right kind of learner, it was an ideal system. These days, apprenticeships are rare, but I got to thinking recently about how much I’d like to have a personally-trained assistant or three who would trade their work for learning the ins and outs of scenery design first-hand. Why not give it a go? SOURCE INFO DEVELOPER POST LINK : https://www.facebook.com/notes/iblueyonder/scenery-apprentice-wanted/2019098258149507/ NEWS SITE ARTICLE LINK :
  10. Mettar Simulations Director, Matt Davies, opened up with the current situation of the projects under his management on Twitch yesterday. This includes projectFLY, the A380 and SimStall. He also spoke about his current involvement with POSCON (Positive Control Network). These statements left by Matt were also backed up via his latest blog post. Although Matt isn't everyone's "cup of tea", I personally like him and wish him well for the future, he mostly has good idea's, going forward I hope he sort's things out and comes back stronger than ever. 11. Ok, I'm going public on this one cause so far the informations I have are BAD ! iBlueYonder (hello bill !) and Turbulent Design (hi Russel and Greg !) have both moved to a new editor recently, in getting into OrbX licencing. When I read the announce, I was pretty pleased because that would mean for the customer a better support Well, I was very wrong ! I've been a bit long to go to P3D 4.3 update (last time was hard enough :p), so I discovered the mess a bit late maybe, but read this ! The support has become a nightmare ! I bought Nantucket island from PC Aviator, which got support from JustFlight. I got 100$ burger from the iBlueYonder website. Almost at the same time. One I can get support (100$ burger runs) and I cannot get ANY SUPPORT so far for Nantucket island. I got an old archive from PC Aviator wich is not up to date, no option to gfet it from the official iBlueYonder website, and worst : the official answer from the studio is : "if you bought from our website we support you, if not, you're on your own, please buy our products a 2nd time from OrbX !" (I have translated the political tongue language used there) I have the exact same problem with some Turbulent Design products : Angwin-Parret and L35 Big Bear I bought from JusfFlight are not updated on the JF store, the official website explains that "they have licencing changes" and the customer can go die or buy ! More politely of course, but it does say the same. what are your call on these ? I know I could have done the quiet "I know some people bill and Greg, help me" but it seems to me that it would be very wrong to do that, instead of getting a decent and expected support ! In fact, I've been contacted by Bill very kindly (Russel sent me the other way...), but as I said : it is not easy, not streamlined, not normal ! And you will find some more testimonies from other customers from different shops/ sites... 17. 10 years ago i did my first repaint for FSX and since then, i transformed hundrets of warplanes into fancy cookiejar* Racing Planes. For the anniversary of my thoroughly controversial hobby, I started to tidy up my project folders - starting with the XPFR D520 - my favourite freeware plane. i have arranged my complete Dewoitine repaint collection and presented it clearly on my website. Other Collections / Planes will follow (only my X-Plane paintjobs) That's not a big topic, i know - the only reason why i created this strange Topic is, because I think that Repaints & Freeware are too neglected in the Flightsim Youtuber and Reviewer scene. https://youtu.be/0YMu2RbVXmg *(so i am called mocking by the professional repaint pioneers: a CookieJarAirplane Designer) SOURCE INFO DEVELOPER POST LINK : https://www.unionvogelhirsch.de/ NEWS SITE ARTICLE LINK : https://www.unionvogelhirsch.de/dewoitine-520/

  22. Orbx has announced the launch of their official Twitch streaming channel. The all new and official Twitch channel will go live for the first time in late October, with the streams set to show off scenery and airport previews while also giving a stage to company news and competitions. In the announcement on the Orbx forum, CEO John Venema is quoted as saying that this channel is something he has always wanted to do. Live streams on the channel will be hosted by the company’s Community and Marketing Manager, Aimee Sanjari, alongside well known and established Twitch streamer, Brendan Quinn – better known by his channel name of Dirkadurka. The company felt that Brendan was a suitable choice to get involved with the channel being that he has many years of streaming and simming experience, while also being a regular user of both major simulators, Prepar3D and X-Plane. With the first stream set to kick off at the end of October, registered Twitch users can head over to the brand new channel to follow it and be notified when the inaugural stream goes live.
