  1. My longest title so far I'm pretty sure ! So I received an email from Deadstick Bush Flight Sim today that invites me to fill a form for the incoming closed beta phase, which is before the Early Access phase on Steam obviously. I asked if it can be shared and guess what : yes ! I must say first that the team is looking for motivated testers, that can report, critic, share ideas etc so the team/ the project can evolve in the right direction with our help. Whether you are a gamer or a simmer, you play with an xBox controller or with a fully fleshed cockpit, there will be plenty to test ! I cannot say if there will be a NDA but I'm trying to get the intell from Chris or any member of the tram as quick as possible to fill that gap. Note that you will need a Discord account, and join the Deadstick channel, and it would be nice, even if you do not intend to participate, that you add the title on your Steam wishlist : it'll help the team on referencing. The form link : Deadstick - Closed Beta Interest Sign-Up DOCS.GOOGLE.COM If you are interested in helping test pre-release versions of Deadstick - Bush Flight Simulator ahead of the launch please fill in your details below. 3. VATSIM, for those new, can be quite a daunting prospect. Potentially hundreds of people trying to get involved at any time in an unfamiliar environment trying something new for the first time. I personally remember my first time and I was so freaked out, I switched it off and vowed to never use it again. Luckily some advice from friends and a handful of YouTube tutorials later, I was flying online. I’m sure most will tell you that flying online is both rewarding and fun. To encourage more people to get involved with the fun, VATSIM are hosting the First Wings event. From 23:00z on April 27th until 02:00z on the 28th, VATSIM controllers in Minneapolis and Chicago will be online to help those inexperienced users to understand and get involved with online flying. Rochester, Rockford, Eastern Iowa and Duluth International will all be open for business to practice and get involved. The controllers will be there on hand to help you every step of the way. There’s no such thing as a silly question as the whole idea of the event is to train and teach. The only requirement is that you know how to handle and fly the plane you’re taking up in the virtual skies. Closer to the time, exact routes and a briefing pack will be sent out to give people the full details they will need. In addition to the controllers controlling, there will be a host of experienced pilots and air traffic controllers on hand to support and answer questions. VATSIM are asking that if you’re experienced and well versed that you do not fly as part of the event. This really is a space designed for those looking to fly without the pressure of hundreds of others all trying to take part. Below are some recommended routes for the event, if you choose to take part. The full event page can be found on the VATSIM website. As a reminder, it will take place at 23:00z on April 27th. 4. UK2000 Scenery previously announced that they would be taking the rest of 2019 off to build brand new tools to enhance future products. However, they have revised that to announce they will be bringing a few updates to existing products as they bring their new tools to life. Whilst that was the plan originally, UK2000 Scenery have reviewed that and stated that they will instead adopt a more ‘evolution’ approach rather than a full revolution. What this means is that they will be going back through some of their existing airports and will update them to include new multi-material ground textures all in 2K and DDS format. Other improvements will also be included. As the development of the new tools continues, they will also bring new updates to the library going forward. The work on these new updates will start soon and we’ll start to see the new updates as of Summer 2019. In terms of which airports, nothing at this time has been confirmed. 7. VATSIM swift Client Available in Open Beta After six years of development, the swift client is now available to the public to use. It is a brand new client supported by VATSIM, which is cross-compatible with all major flight simulator platforms including Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Lockheed Martin Prepar3D and X-Plane. FlightGear has also been included in the mix of supported simulators. Further to the compatibility with the modern sims, Windows, Linux and MacOS are also supported. The swift client has been designed to be a “very powerful client” and easy to use. It will work to bring a cohesive online experience regardless of the platform you’re using or flying on. With the online database storing detailed information about all possible AI and flyable models, liveries, aircraft types and airports, it should mean no more model mismatch. It should mean regardless of what you’re using, others on the network will see you correctly. The development team have also worked with vPilot to ensure that information regarding aircraft animation is also exchanged. This means you will be able to see landing lights, flaps, gear and more all animate and switch on/off accurately as the user completes the task across any simulator. To ensure that development will continue, the swift client is fully open source. You can see the source code on the development page. The team are encouraging people with an interest in supporting development, fixing bugs or implement ideas to visit and get involved. The idea is that the swift client will become something really owned by the community. The public beta phase, which is what this product is currently in, has been tested by Alpha testers who have reported a positive experience. However, there are still some bugs, features missing and also a few user-interface problems which are being worked on. Feedback from the community will help to resolve some of these issues. If you would like to participate in the Open Beta of swift, you can head to the swift project page, where you can find documentation and download links. 21. Microsoft Fixes the Windows 10 Update That Caused In-Game Issues Microsoft released Windows 10 cumulative update KB4489899 yesterday, and in addition to the usual bug fixes and security improvements, the update is supposed to address the performance issues in certain games that were caused by its predecessor. That update, KB4482887, was released on March 1. Its primary focus was to bring the Retpoline mitigation to the Spectre Variant 2 vulnerability to Windows 10 to improve performance over previous mitigations. But it also caused low frame rates, mouse input lag, and other problems in games like Destiny 2. The issue appeared to affect people who updated to KB4482887 regardless of their hardware configuration, installed drivers, or other factors. Deleting the update also fixed the problem, so it was clear that the blame lay squarely on Microsoft's corporate shoulders. (Or at least those responsible for Windows 10 updates.) But now KB4489899 is said to fix the problem. Microsoft said in the release notes that this update: "Addresses an issue that may degrade graphics and mouse performance with desktop gaming when playing certain games, such as Destiny 2, after installing KB4482887." It also improves HoloLens and has security updates. KB4489899 does have issues, though. One causes "applications that provide advanced options for internal or external audio output devices" to stop working on "machines that have multiple audio devices." Microsoft listed Windows Media Player, Realtek HD Audio Manager, and Sound Blaster Control Panel as examples of such apps. That problem has a temporary solution, which involves selecting the "Default Audio Device" in the app's options and then sending the app's audio to the right device using per-application audio settings in Settings > System > Sound > App Volume and device preferences. Microsoft plans to fix the issue in late March. Hopefully, that issue--along with the others listed in the release notes--isn't a deal breaker. If it isn't, KB4489899 should be good to go for people who didn't want to sacrifice in-game performance by installing KB4482887. The update and its requisite service stack updates can be installed, fittingly, via Windows Update. 22. Windows 10 Update Causing Severe In-Game Performance Issues I hope this doesn't effect us. Another day, another buggy patch from the flagship gaming OS. Windows 10 Update KB4482887, has been confirmed by Microsoft to severely hamper performance in certain games. From Destiny 2, to Sea of Thieves and beyond, the performance hits themselves are reportedly hardware agnostic, it doesn’t matter if you’re running AMD, Intel or Nvidia, you’ll likely fall prey to both frame rate drops in game, and severe input lag. Microsoft’s official statement reads: “After installing KB4482887, users may notice graphics and mouse performance degredation with desktop gaming when playing certain games (eg: Destiny 2). According to the company, it’s working on a resolution to the issue and should provide an update in an upcoming release. For the time being users can uninstall KB4482887 to regain the lost performance. 23. FSElite Exclusive: Brand New Information Regarding TFDi Design’s PACX by CALUM MARTIN on 7TH MARCH 2019 FSXNEWSP3DXPL FACEBOOK TWITTER REDDIT Whilst it was formally announced back at FlightSimExpo 2018, TFDi Design has been awfully quiet on progress with their newest product PACX. There have been some teased on their Instagram and Facebook accounts as of late. However, we are pleased to be able to exclusively bring you some brand new information regarding the new product along. First a bit of background. PACX (Passenger and Crew Experience) has been designed and built to give flight simmers the opportunity to simulate the responsibility any captain would feel when travelling with passengers and crew down the back. PACX will give you the opportunity to pass on messages to the passengers and interact with the cabin crew in a dynamic and engaging way. (The video above is a very early version of the product and is far from a final representation of the product) For example, if you’re late to push back and depart, you may find your crew and passengers less friendly than usual – unless of course, you provide them with plenty of information along the way. Passengers and crew will react in real time to what’s going on and the situation you’re in. It will ensure that no two flights are the same. In terms of control, everything can be done through the clean and non-obstructive overlay menu. It’s super simple to navigate through the options, set certain conditions and make decisions. You can inform crew and passengers of delays, diversions, aircraft technical issues and more. Furthermore, you will be able to issue any menu interaction with voice commands through the Public Address system. Both the crew and passengers will react accordingly. PACX from TFDi Design will be a product that continues to grow and build as time goes on. Flight reports can be shared with friends or virtual airlines easily through web-based services and users will be able to customise various elements easily thanks to the XML scripting. In terms of integration, PACX will work with various third-party aircraft via various Virtual Cockpit controls, it won’t be restricted to a certain aircraft or developer. A massive part of the product is sound engineering. We spoke to Brandon Olivo from the TFDi Design team who provided some insight into just how detailed and creative the team have got with ensuring it all sounds as realistic as possible. “The sounds play an important roll in PACX. As you go through your experience with PACX, you will notice your cabin crew isn’t just a robot. As would anyone, if your day isn’t going so well, it might project into your work! Our flight attendant doesn’t always have the best days, and it will be shown. Ask her for too many refills on your coffee during an already bad day, and she might not be too pleased! We aimed for variety when trying to capture the experience of doing more than just flying a cockpit around the whole time. Listening to the same announcements over and over again may become repetitive thus reducing the awe factor in your flight simulation experience. From notifying the cabin what flight number this is seamlessly, to advising on estimated flight time, PACX will surprise you with every flight! With our initial release, our flight attendant will provide you 100+ hours of enjoyable/realistic flight time before you really get to learn who she is. Our intentions are to later release packs to introduce you to more flight crews from around the world, but for now, we can’t wait to show you what is to come!” Video Player 00:00 00:19 Whilst the product is still in active development, we can confirm that beta testing is underway. In fact, a few members of the FSElite team are involved and will be reporting some first looks on the product in the near future. In terms of platforms, PACX will work with FSX, FSX:SE, P3Dv2-4 and also X-Plane 11. Whilst there are plans for it to work with any aircraft type, passenger interaction will be limited to commercial aviation at first, with things like corporate, military and general aviation to come in the future. No pricing has been set, yet but TFDi Design has assured it will be priced “competitively” to other similar products. As for a release date, so far, the team have confirmed it will be released before June 1st 2019. As development continues, we’ll be sure to update you accordingly. As mentioned, a few members of the FSElite team have access to the beta and so we’ll be putting together a first look in the near future for the community to check out. Head on over to the product page on TFDi Design’s website for the full scoop. 24. 218 Dear friends, The Spring has come and in today's Dev Blog, after some delay, we're returning to our main project - Bodenplatte. This delay in the news has been caused by the fact that during the Winter all the work on this project was made at a deep level - it was hard to make a screenshot of something - but it was a hard work nevertheless. This was known beforehand and planned this way. If you were following us for some time, you may recall that such visible pauses in the development news in the middle of a development cycle happened in all our previous projects and are a result of the effective work and division of labor. But today we finally have some intermediate results to show, and there a lot of them. First, we can disclose more details about the map of the project. Previously we mentioned only its size and location, but today we can tell you more information. There will be more than 200 settlements of various sizes. Air forces of the opposing forces will take off from more than 100 airfields. The total length of all roads will exceed 20000 km. The reachable zone of the map is 129859 square kilometers (400.8 x 324 km) while the entire map is 176947 square km (460.8 x 384 km). The preliminary list of the cities we plan to have ready at the time of release follows: Antwerp The Hauge Liege Frankfurt am Main Dortmund Münster Cologne (Köln) Bonn Gent Rotterdam Charleroi Amsterdam Düsseldorf Aachen Bruxelles Arnhem Duisburg Essen Apeldoorn Maastricht Again, if you have followed our development before, you may notice that the parameters of the new map are breaking the record once again. This is also the first map to be released with all four seasons simultaneously - a hard challenge for the entire team. To be able to complete the project before the set deadline without compromising quality, our Lead Map Artist Evgeny Isaev has found new methods of development and large cities creation. Also, Evgeny has designed artistic approaches that will not simply repeat the visual quality of the previous maps but will also give players a new visual feel that is characteristic for flying over Western Europe. But enough words, it is time to show you something new - on these screenshots you can see the central areas of Bruxelles, Liege, and Köln: But these map development news are not the only ones we have. We can show you the progress we have made on the three coming planes: P-38J-25 heavy fighter, B-25 heavy bomber (AI only), and Me 262 A jet fighter. For the first one of them, P-38J-25, we have used a new approach of creating the exterior and interior 3D models in parallel, not subsequently - at the early stage the model is divided into exterior and interior parts and the coordinates of their seams are stored, then both models are being worked on simultaneously to be connected back at the final step. This aircraft, of course, is unbelievable, what can we say - it's a legend: The B-25 bomber will be AI-only in this project, but we'll try to make its exterior 3D and physical model at the same quality level as our player controllable aircraft. First, this is important for those who will be attacking or defending these planes in the Career mode, campaigns, single scenarios and Coop multiplayer. Second, who knows - perhaps a possibility to make it flyable will reveal itself in the future: The exterior 3D model of Me 262 A "Schwalbe" is completely done, including the official skins. The interior (cockpit) model is almost done (currently the artists are working on its texturing), while our engineers are working on its FM and the physical model of a jet engine.
