  1. UK2000 Scenery has provided the community with an overview of their current workload for the upcoming year and beyond. Taking to Facebook, the team announced that they have plans for further FS2004 airports (despite their previous statement), building new technology for next year and also a range of airports which will continue to be ported to X-Plane 11. The first piece of information is that Bournemouth Xtreme is almost finished. The final beta checks are going through right now – release is expected in Mid-February. This will be the last Xtreme airport from UK2000 Scenery, as they are looking to build the new toolset for new products from now on. With that in mind, the team did confirm that as the ‘Xtreme’ technology is capable of rendering for FS2004, the team decided to add both Bournemouth and Belfast V2 to their work flow to make it compatible with the older simulator. This means that their entire Xtreme Airport selection will be available for all sims in the future. No more updates (other than fixing bugs and adding SODE jetways) will be made for airports in the Xtreme package. In regards to the aforementioned new technology, it was confirmed that 2019 will see the team build the new tool set to enable a brand new range of updates to come out from 2020 and beyond. The first two airports to see this new technology will be Luton Airport and Bristol Airport. They also confirmed that new airports will also be made including the Isle of Man. As for X-Plane 11 users: the team shared their Trello board to give an overview of upcoming projects. From the list, 13 airports are currently in development for X-Plane 11 conversion (or will be in the future). This includes the likes of Jersey, Heathrow and Belfast. That’s all the information shared. Once new airports are released or if there are updates, we’ll be sure to let you know. 6. Radar Contact and JDTLLC in Transition Twenty-one years ago, two Flight Simulator enthusiasts had a common wish, to improve the ATC in FS. A programmer in Atlanta met an Air Traffic controller in Memphis and we created a company called JDTLLC. We began working on Radar Contact which became the best FS ATC program available for many years. In 2001, after 6 years of work, Version 4.3 was released. Seventeen years later, after deep soul searching, we decided to give RC away for free, and step away from the business of supporting it. As of January 1st, 2019, we will shutdown the web site, our email, our storage providers, and our e-commerce partner. What this means to our existing customers, and future owners: 1. Radar Contact 4.3 will be available at no charge, by downloading it from my iCloud Drive. Here is the link. 2. JDTLLC will no longer generate keys. We will give you the same tool we use, the Key Generator. You can download it from here. 3. Radar Contact will be supported here on the AVSIM forum. 4. Refunds have already been issued to the customers who purchased RC in the last 3 months. 5. John and Doug will be available, as needed, at jdradarcontact@iCloud.com. Keep in mind, support will be handled here on the forum. During these 21 years, we have encountered tens of thousands of customers, hundreds of supporters and contributors and dozens of beta testers. We will never be able to adequately express our deepest gratitude and thankfulness to each and every one of you. All we can do is say, "Thank You". 13. Courtesy of BBC news, here is another report showing yet more disruption to commercial aviation caused by drones. The sooner they find a solution to irresponsible and downright dangerous drone flying the better: == Passengers at one of the UK's busiest airports have been warned to expect further flight disruption after drones were seen over the airfield. Gatwick's runway remains closed after two of the devices were seen nearby, sparking a string of delays and diversions on Wednesday evening. Outbound flights were grounded and incoming planes redirected - with some landing in Paris and Amsterdam. Passengers due to travel have been told to check the status of their flight. == More details including the misery passengers endured on diverted flights are available via the link below. 15. Development Update: Just Flight & Just Trains - December 2018 So where did that year go? Seems only a matter of weeks since we released our first add-ons of the year back in January. We hope you've enjoyed the content that the Just Flight and Just Trains teams have brought you this year, there has been the usual varied mix of new add-ons from Just Flight, perhaps less so from Just Trains but that's something we're aiming to remedy in 2019. All the products released in 2018 can be found in the Latest Releases sections, here for Just Flight and here for Just Trains. Please read on for the very latest from the two development camps... It’s been a busy end to 2018 for the Just Flight development team. In the past few months we have released the PA-28-181 Archer III, Duchess Model 76 and the Avro Vulcan B Mk. 2 for FSX and P3D, and those products continue to receive regular updates in response to your feedback and to add even greater functionality. Following the release of P3D v4.4 a few weeks ago, we are currently working on a Physically Based Rendering (PBR) upgrade for the Vulcan, bringing the aircraft up to the very latest visual standards offered by the simulator, and we will have more news on that early next year. Looking ahead to 2019, the team are working on a variety of new products for FSX/P3D and X-Plane 11. There will be plenty of variety for FSX/P3D users with the Tornado F3, the next generation of our VFR Real Scenery and some classic airliners currently in development. Our popular Traffic Global product will also be coming out of early access. The PA-28-181 Archer III and Duchess Model 76 will be coming to X-Plane 11 in the new year, and we will be releasing significant updates for our existing aircraft range to bring them up to the latest XP11.30 standards. We'd like to thank you for your continued interest, support and custom and we sincerely hope you'll enjoy all that we have in store for you in 2019. Here's an update on some of the products we're currently working on. VFR REAL SCENERY NEXGEN 3D The first volume – Southern England & South Wales – is in final testing at the moment and the other three volumes are nearing completion. We are estimating release in early January. Feedback from our testers has been very positive. The latest version of P3D (Version 4.4) features improvements to the way photo textures are handled and VFRRS NexGen now looks even more impressive in 4.4. As a reminder, existing owners of any of our VFR Real Scenery downloads (or disc versions purchased from us) will be entitled to a significant discount on the NexGen series. VFR Real Scenery NexGen 3D TORNADO F3 Soon to be added to Just Flight’s already impressive hangar of military aircraft, Tornado F3 development continues at a pace – new HUD, Head-Down-Display, RHWR, weapons management, navigator TV displays, communication and night lighting systems are in place, and the high quality aircraft model is entering its final stages. Tornado F3 VC10 PROFESSIONAL Following on from the release of VC10 Jetliner, we have been busy upgrading the aircraft to our ‘Professional’ level with fully functional systems, including custom-coded electrical, fuel, hydraulic and pressurisation systems. The navigation capabilities will also receive an upgrade with a brand-new INS unit fitted to the navigator station. In addition to the systems upgrade, we are working on new Super VC10 and RAF (C1K, K3 and K4) variants which will feature a variety of animations including refuelling equipment and main-deck cargo doors, as well as cockpit modifications. We are in the latter stages of the systems coding and work is well underway on the new variants, so keep an eye on the In Development section for the first set of images! SUD AVIATION CARAVELLE III The Caravelle development team are hard at work modelling and texturing the remaining areas of the cockpit following a research trip to photograph a real-world Caravelle simulator in Germany. It is always challenging to collate the extensive reference material that is needed to accurately reproduce classic aircraft such as the Caravelle, and these research trips provide us with the opportunity to explore every corner and peek inside every hatch of the real aircraft. With the modelling work drawing to a close in the new year, our coders will soon begin the process of bringing the aircraft to life with custom-coded systems. We will be sharing regular updates on this progress via the In Development page, Facebook and Twitter over the coming weeks. Sud Aviation Caravelle III 747 CLASSIC After many months of work, the mammoth job of modelling, texturing and the animation of the 747 Classic is nearly complete. The exterior and cockpit models are now finished, with painstaking detail right down to accurately modelled cabins with staircases (see development screenshot above), and hundreds of custom animations have been added. We recently shared some new preview images of the extensive virtual cockpit which features wear and tear based on a real-world aircraft, and we were pleased to see all of the great feedback and excitement for this iconic aircraft! Our coding team have been busy working on the huge array of avionics and systems functionality found onboard the aircraft, from the realistic exterior model animations to the engineer’s panel, and we will be providing more updates on each of these areas in the coming months. After receiving lots of feedback from the community, we are now working on additional variants to follow the 747 Classic, including the 747-300, VC-25 and E-4B. More news on those next time! 747 Classic TRAFFIC GLOBAL (EARLY ACCESS) We’ll be back in 2019 with many more improvements and enhancements to Traffic Global, including improved model lighting, more liveries and new features as we move towards a full release version in the early part of next year. In the meantime, for those of you who are already Traffic Global users we’ve opened a thread in the Early Access forum where you can request the liveries you’d most like to see added to the fleet. Please take a moment to add those you would like to see and we will endeavour to supply as many as possible in the new year. Traffic Global Early Access Here we are in the last month of 2018. Things have been a bit “Swan-like” here at Just Trains and although we have published and released several products such as the fantastic Valley Corridor route, ultra-urban detailed U-Bahn Frankfurt II tram system, super-authentic London-Aylesburyroute both in stand-alone form as well as the add-on version for the Chiltern Main Line, the unique German narrow-gauge Saxon IV-K steam locomotive and the essential UK Military Wagon packcarrying IFA’s, on the surface we may not appear to have been overly busy, the reality is that work on many projects has been happening. We announced two of these quite recently - the Ultimate Class 37 and the Midland Main Line - Sheffield-Derby route and more will be announced in the coming months. Software development of any kind has its challenges and all manner of things can and normally do affect the development times of projects such as a sim update breaking our code, feature creep where we want to add more features to make the project even more authentic, customer feedback and so on. These can add delays and this is one of the reasons why we try to never issue a release date until we're confident we can achieve the said date. We fully understand and really do appreciate your excitement and enthusiasm for our up-coming products but we want to ensure that when they are ready for release they really are ‘ready for release’. Your patience is as always greatly appreciated. Please read on for the latest news on the batch of products currently in development. LONDON UNDERGROUND S8 ADVANCED The much anticipated London Underground S8 Tube train is progressing very well now after a recent setback following the release of Train Simulator 2019 64bit version. Unfortunately this broke the code that we use that passes messages between the front and rear of the train such as the external destination boards, this meant that for instance you could set Harrow on the Hill in the TCMS in the cab and it would display that on the front external display but there would be no destination displayed on the rear of the train, so we had to update that code plus the code that we had already developed that worked previously. Externally and internally the models are all but complete. As an indication of the attention to detail affored to the S8, the real information displays use a LED type matrix system so that any message can be displayed. This posed a problem as there is no real font for this and so we needed to create a model matrix and then “illuminate” each of the required dots to form each letter and that meant the displays on the model would match the real-thing. We have not yet released a full set of specifications for the S8 as the systems coding is still ongoing but it should not be too long until we are able to do that. We are really proud of all of the work that has gone into the development of the S8 and are certainly looking forward to the release to allow you to enjoy a really authentic LU S8 experience. S8 Advanced WESTERN MAINLINES - CORNISH MAIN LINE EXTENSION Development of the Cornish Main Line has been on-going for some time but the finish line is seemingly in sight! This line is an extension of our Western Mainlines route and as such has to be integrated into the existing network that currently runs from London Paddington all the way down to Plymouth, as long as you have the Devon Main Line add-on installed. It has yet to be determined if Cornish Main Line will only be available as an add-on to Western Mainlines or also available as a stand-alone route. As Cornish Main Line is an add-on to Western Mainlines an updated version of Western Mainlines will be released at the same time as the Cornish Main Line . We have spent some time updating Western Mainlines to help increase the frame rate speeds, especially with the number of trees used, and this looks to have made a significant difference to performance. Cornish Main Line and the Western Mainlines update is due for release in early 2019. Cornish Main Line Extension ULTIMATE CLASS 37 We recently announced the Ultimate Class 37 and it now resides in the In Development section on the Just Trains website. This was originally in development with RailRight and we are now pleased to be progressing development by working with Vulcan Productions. As per the name, this will be the Ultimate Class 37 and will have sublime modelling and textures, both externally and in the cab, along with a custom sound set, super dynamics and an advanced set of custom-coded features. This is most certainly the one to watch! Ultimate Class 37 MIDLAND MAIN LINE - SHEFFIELD TO DERBY Sheffield to Derby is a 36-mile section of the Midland Main Line through the heart of South Yorkshire and Derbyshire, serving the towns of Dore, Dronfield, Chesterfield, Belper and Duffield along the way. Development of the route, due to be released in 2019, is progressing very well with all the terrain, track and Super Elevation complete. Signalling is around 50% complete and the scenery work is about a third of the way complete. Building the many custom assets is about to get under way, and these include the Derby R.T.C and its associated sheds as well as Etches Park Depot and a number of the unique buildings around the stations at Sheffield. Needless to say, the stations and much else besides will be modelled specifically for this route. Midland Main Line - Sheffield to Derby LONDON - AYLESBURY UPDATE We have been working on a service pack/update for both the stand-alone and add-on for Chiltern Main Line versions of this route. Along with minor bugs fixes we have carried out work to increase the frame rates of the route along with enhancing the visual appearance. We removed extraneous objects such as houses that are not in view from the track and looked at visual enhancements too, for instance we have replaced the grass with a super new asset that really does look good. A main focus of the update is to prepare London-Aylesbury for the up-coming S8 release. Part of the London Underground Metropolitan Line runs besides and at some points on the very same rails as the London-Aylesbury route. The Met line section of the route is fully signalled and functional and we are now upgrading it to work with the S8. Part of this upgrade has involved very careful placement of the S8 stop chevrons and their invisible markers that are at each LU station. This means that when you correctly stop the S8, that must be in a very precise position, so driving skills ahoy! The S8 in-cab video screens will display (simulated) images of a platform. These are used in the real S8 to check that all is in order with the train before departure. One of the other route upgrades required for the S8 use is the development and placement of invisible markers that communicate with the S8 Radio display. The Met line has several radio centres along its route and the name of each radio centre is displayed on the radio and changes as the train moves along the route. We now have this simulated in the S8. The updated London-Aylesbury is due for release in early 2019. London - Aylesbury So that's it for this Development update. Hopefully you've found it useful and it's given you a good taster of what's to come in 2019. Remember you can visit the In Development sections of the Just Flight &Just Trains websites where new products are announced and screenshots and product details are added to the pages on a regular basis.
