  2. High wide-bodies over mid-England fall into two categories, both transatlantic: those going to London Heathrow, and those going to continental Europe (Paris, Luxemburg etc). The latter are generally at 37000-40000 feet and usually produce contrails, whilst the London flights have begun their descent and are usually 27000-30000 feet, rarely with contrails. I've included a narrow-body 737 with fuselage trail for some 'light relief', otherwise it's 747,777,787,A380 and A330. The lens was used with stacked teleconverters to give actual focal lengths over 2 metres. Several cameras were used. As you can see in many of the shots, the main factor limiting visible detail is the stability of the atmosphere.SOURCE
  3. Landing in Altenrhein Airport, Switzerland at lake Bodensee after a flight from Vienna, Austria. The Fokker 100 is a medium-sized, twin-turbofan jet airliner from Fokker, the largest such aircraft built by the company before its bankruptcy in 1996. The type possessed low operational costs and initially had scant competition in the 100-seat short-range regional jet class, contributing to strong sales upon introduction in the late 1980s. However, an increasing number of similar airliners were brought to market by competitors during the 1990s, leading to a substantial decline in both sales and long-term prospects for the 100. Fokker also encountered financial difficulties and was bought up by Deutsche Aerospace AG, which in turn had financial troubles of its own, restricting its ability to support multiple regional airliner programmes. Accordingly, in 1997, production of the Fokker 100 was terminated after 283 airframes had been delivered. By July 2017, a total of 113 Fokker 100 aircraft remained in airline service with 25 airlines around the world. Although airlines are currently retiring the aircraft, there are still large numbers in operation in both Australia and Iran. The Rolls-Royce RB.183 Tay is a turbofan engine, developed from the RB.183 Mk 555 Spey core and using a fan scaled directly from the Rolls-Royce RB.211-535E4 to produce versions with a bypass ratio of 3.1:1 or greater. The IP compressor and LP turbine were designed using technology from the RB.211 programme. The engine was first run in August 1984. The Tay 650 had a new HP turbine which incorporated new technology which had been proven with the RB.211-535E4. This engine also had a new combustor for improved durability. The Tay family is used on a number of airliners and larger business jets, including the Gulfstream IV family, Fokker 70 and Fokker 100, with a later version being used to re-engine Boeing 727-100s. St. Gallen–Altenrhein Airport (IATA: ACH, ICAO: LSZR) is a small airport in Altenrhein in the Canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland near Lake Constance. It is the home base for People's airline. At the end of World War II, Swiss authorities identified existing locations that were to be modernized as regional airports, a second tier of infrastructure to support the primary urban airports, with St. Gallen-Altenrhein being one of the five. Austrian Airlines served St. Gallen-Altenrhein from Vienna since 2003 when it took over the route from Rheintalflug, a predecessor of InterSky. The airport decided to terminate the contracts with Austrian in 2011 and started their own airline, People's (formerly People's Viennaline), to serve the route. Austrian decided to continue the route as well in direct competition. As a result, there were up to six daily flights from the small airport to Vienna during that period. In spring 2013, Austrian announced the termination of their route to Vienna due to continuing losses as a result of the harsh competition. The airport features a small passenger terminal building and some apron and hangar stands for aircraft such as the Embraer 170, business jets or general aviation planes such as the Cessna 172. As there are no jet bridges, walk-boarding is used. The paved, eastbound runway 10 is equipped with an Instrument landing system (ILS CAT I). Due to its short length the main runway can only be used by smaller passenger aircraft such as the Embraer E-Jets or the Bombardier Q Series.SOURCE

The Antonov An-12 (NATO reporting name: Cub) is a four-engined turboprop transport aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. It is the military version of the Antonov An-10 and was made in many variants. The first prototype flew in December 1957. Over 900 had been built, in both military and civilian versions, before production finally ended in 1973. The An-12BP entered Soviet military service in 1959. In terms of configuration, size and capability, the aircraft is similar to the United States-built Lockheed C-130 Hercules. Military Soviet and former-Soviet examples have a defensive tail gun turret. In the 1960s China purchased several An-12 aircraft from the Soviet Union, along with a license to assemble the aircraft locally. However, due to the Sino-Soviet split, the Soviet Union withdrew its technical assistance. It was not until 1974 that the first Chinese-assembled An-12 had its maiden flight. The Xi'an Aircraft Company and Xi'an Aircraft Design Institute worked to reverse-engineer the An-12 for local production. In 1981, the Chinese copy version of the An-12, designated Y-8, entered production. Since then the Y-8 has become one of China's most popular military and civilian transport/cargo aircraft, with many variants produced and exported. A Tu-16/H-6 bomber navigator cockpit design was chosen for Y-8 instead of the original An-12 shorter navigator cockpit design, as the H-6 bomber had been in serial production for some time. Ukraine Air Alliance is an airline based in Kiev, Ukraine. It operates cargo and passenger charters as well as services to Asia, Africa and Europe. Its main bases are Boryspil International Airport (KBP) and Zhulyany International Airport (IEV). The airline was established on 28 February 1992 and started operations in 1993. It registered with the Ukrainian authorities as a joint stock company and was one of the first private air enterprises in Ukraine to obtain international status through registration at ICAO.   10. It sounds kinda weird but CAL Airlines actually bought this green Boeing 747 on ebay. The former Jade Cargo aircraft was stored at Shenzen for six years until the airport decided to seize and sell the airplane on TaoBao, which is the chinese version of ebay. They even sold three Boeing 747` s but two of them were bought by the chinese post company SF Airlines. The other former Jade Aircraft was bought by CAL Airlines and received a D Check at Tel Aviv. They didn` t repaint the aircraft yet which I appreciate because I always enjoyed the green livery of Jade Cargo and it` s nice to see the livery seven years after the airline had to file for bankruptcy.   16. The Airbus Beluga might be the weirdest plane in the world. There are just six Belugas worldwide and all of them operate for the Airbus company and transport parts of new planes between the airbus factories in France, the UK, spain and germany. Soon they will be replaced by the new Airbus A330 Beluga XL. After that Airbus has plans to sell the A300 Belugas to special cargo operators like Volga Dnepr. We might see these special Airbus planes everywhere in the world in the near future. All of these clips were filmed during my 7 hour visit at Hamburg Finkenwerder and I found a great position behind the runway.   17. The Boeing 777 (Triple Seven) is a long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliner developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It is the world's largest twinjet and has a typical seating capacity of 314 to 396 passengers, with a range of 5,240 to 8,555 nautical miles (9,704 to 15,844 km). Commonly referred to as the "Triple Seven", its distinguishing features include the large–diameter turbofan engines, long raked wings, six wheels on each main landing gear, fully circular fuselage cross-section, and a blade-shaped tail cone. Developed in consultation with eight major airlines, the 777 was designed to replace older wide-body airliners and bridge the capacity difference between Boeing's 767 and 747. As Boeing's first fly-by-wire airliner, it has computer-mediated controls. It was also the first commercial aircraft to be designed entirely with computer-aided design. The 777 is produced in two fuselage lengths as of 2018. The original 777-200 variant entered commercial service in 1995, followed by the extended-range 777-200ER in 1997. The stretched 777-300, which is 33.25 ft (10.1 m) longer, followed in 1998. The initial 777-200, extended-range -200ER, and -300 versions are equipped with General Electric GE90, Pratt & Whitney PW4000, or Rolls-Royce Trent 800 engines. They have since been collectively referred to as 777 Classics. The extended-range 777-300ER and ultra long-range 777-200LR variants entered service in 2004 and 2006 respectively, while the 777F, a freighter version, debuted in February 2009; these second-generation variants all feature high-output GE90 engines and extended raked wingtips. The 777-200LR is one of the world's longest-range airliners, able to fly more than halfway around the globe and holds the record for the longest distance flown non-stop by a commercial aircraft. The 777X features composite folding wings and GE9X engines plus further technologies developed for the Boeing 787, and is scheduled to enter service by 2020. Air New Zealand Limited is the flag carrier airline of New Zealand.   18. My journey started several years ago when I pushed myself to get back into flight simulation. I have always loved flying online and in real life, but never got that serious with it. I set out to get into military sims and bought the A10 Thrustmaster controllers and DCS. This was fun and still is, but its not realistic as far as what I could or can accomplish at my age. I have always wanted to be able to fly GA and commercial aircraft. I happened to just get lucky one day while watching a streamer on twitch switch from a FPS game to going flying. Flying, really? You can do this on twitch? I had no idea. I had no idea about what I was about to get into. Belnyz was the guy. He flew out of Sedona which I had visited just about 6 months prior. I was amazed at what I saw. Flight simulation has really come a long way. I started watching more and more on twitch and stumbled on Edson from theSkyLounge one late night for me. I was instantly hooked on his stream and his service. I loved the visuals and the music combined with the simulator. Sure I watch guys like Chewy and Chilly now as well for the hardcore simulation flights or long hauls, but sometimes I love to just get immersed with the sights and sounds of a good OMGEdson stream. It brings out the beauty of flying and to me, that’s what its all about. It’s about lining up that runway at approach altitude with the right music going with a nice sunset. Nothing is more beautiful. After years of investing in hardware, software, and blowing every dollar I could on simulation for both P3D and Xplane 11, I decided I wanted to take it to the next level and work towards a possible career change into the airline industry. At my age, that may not make much sense, and of course I am in no rush to do that. I would like it as a backup as the industries I am in continually shift jobs outside of the US which is where I live. I need a backup plan for something I really love. It is now January 2019. I make 2 resolutions this year. The first is to work hard at getting back into shape. I used to be in pretty good shape. I raced motorcycles and exercised daily. I always ran a 5k a day back then. I missed that. So the work starts… My other resolution was to actually get my PPL before I turn 50. Yes 50. Ugh! It’s coming this year and I am working hard to make that a reality. I decided to go do my training at a Class D airport near Austin in Georgetown. I have friends who fly out of Georgetown as well as some who have done their training there. It just made sense to go to a towered airport, but not a busy one like KAUS. Sure I will fly into KAUS soon, but I did not want my time in the plane eaten up by traffic and ATC. I want real hours in the plane and I can get the class C airspace down while doing this. Tuesday, January 8th, I started my flight school at Pilot Choice Aviation, the same place that some friends of mine did their training. Beth, the owner has created a great service and business for those of us that love aviation. I completed the 6 weeks of flight school all while getting up into the air whenever possible. The weather has cancelled many of my flights this winter, but I have still been able to squeeze out 10 flights with a total of 12.5 hours of flight time. Flight 1 [Jan 6th] : My discovery flight was with Jarrett. He had me takeoff and land the plane with his help. I think he felt comfortable with my sim skills I had picked up in the simulator. I was instantly hooked and signed up for flight school that night. 0.5 hours flown : Total 0.5 hours Flight 2 [Jan 13th] : My flight school instructor, Austin, took me up for my first training. We spent some time on the ground going over pre-flight checks as Jarrett did with me on the 6th. We worked on fundamentals and did a few steep turns. 0.8 hours : Total 1.3 hours Flight 3 [Jan 20th] : I am back with Jarrett from here on out. Austin was busy with many students and it only made sense to stick with one CFI. Jarrett was my initial contact and I was happy to fly with him. We worked on slow flight, power on and power off stalls. 1.3 hours flown : Total 2.6 hours Flight 4 [Jan 24th] : We worked on steep turns, power on and power off stalls. The first time Jarrett demonstrated a steep turn from left to right, I thought I was going to be sick. I was not expecting it. However I put it out of my mind and was able to replicate what he did 3 times in the plane. I was pretty excited but a little nervous that I might get sick which has never happened to me in the air. I can say now, that was just a worry. I have not felt that since and I am very excited to fly every time I head to KGTU. 1.3 hours flown : Total 3.9 hours Flight 5 [Feb 4th – 1.4 hours] : On this flight we worked on ground references and emergency procedures. As Jarrett demonstrated landing on a farm, I almost thought we were going to. We got about 500 feet above it before he aborted. I was shocked with did not get shot at. The farmers out that way are used to it and I would hope that they would prefer a life saved than a little farm damage that money can fix… 1.4 hours flown: Total 5.3 hours Flight 6 [Feb 15th] : It’s been almost 2 weeks since the last flight due to bad weather. We decided to review ground references, emergency procedures, and traffic patterns around some fields. Ground references included turns around a point, S-Turns, and rectangular course work. 1.4 hours flown : Total 6.7 hours Flight 7 [Feb 18th] : We reviewed some of the traffic patterns with my stepped up GoPro system. I am now up to 3 of them in the plane. We did some emergency procedures and then headed back to KGTU to start some real pattern traffic work. I was able to get 4 takeoff and landings done. 1.5 hours flown : Total 8.2 hours Flight 8 [Feb 25th] : This flight was all about the traffic pattern at a towered airport, KGTU. We had a slight crosswind as well. We ended up doing about 10 touch and gos during the flight. 1.3 hours flown : Total 9.5 hours Flight 9 [Feb 27th] : I showed up ready to go, but my archer wasn’t. This was the first time in a new plane. We went from the 181 horse power archer to the 160 horse Warrior. Not a bad plane, but we were close to max weight with filling both wings up before departing. This was not a great flight for me. I felt a little stressed with the instruments different, different plane, and now we were going to a non-towered, shorter runway airport to do touch and gos. My CFI and I decided to end this flight sooner than later due to the takeoff characteristics that were kind of messing with me. I plan on getting back into that plane soon though to beat it. I won’t let it beat me. 1.3 hours flown : Total 10.8 hours Flight 10 [Mar 4th] : We have our archer back and headed back to Taylor, T74 for some uncontrolled pattern work. We had a couple of planes in the pattern with us at different times. This was pretty fun. I was on a high being back in my plane that was performing like a rocket ship at -1C that day. I felt great but made some simple bad calls on the radio as I got tongue tied a few times as well as making the cockpit not sterile at times during critical stages of flight. I think my overconfidence that day led me to that, and I know from my studies nothing should be discussed on takeoff and landings except important information as it pertains to the flight. I am glad I made that mistake though because it needed to be made. It’s something I will always think about on approach as it put our lives in danger. If something was to happen when my hand was not on the throttle discussing something that made no sense to talk about, our lives would be at stake. Yes, I am hard on myself. I expect the best out of myself and want to produce nothing but the best when I fly. 1.7 hours flown: Total 12.5 hours So my times are always on a 2 hour schedule. It takes time to preflight, setup the GoPros, taxi, fuel sometimes, and get off the ground due to traffic. The Hobbs meter in the plane is running from engine start until stop. This is what tracks your flight hours. Typically I am up pretty fast, but I have sat once on the run way for 30 minutes waiting. Its rare but would be more of a problem like that had I flown out of KAUS. This is why a class D towered makes the most sense to me as a student. More time in the skies and less on the ground. You are paying for it no matter where you are, so best to be up in the air. Some things we do before maneuvers: 1. Clearing turns. We look for traffic with a full 180 degree turn or two 90 degree turns in opposite directions. 2. GUMPS check. Gas on fullest tank, Under carriage is down, Mixture is on full rich, Fuel Pump is on, and Seatbelts are attached and harnessed. To get to solo, you need all the training that I have done and then maybe a little more. I am close. However, you need your medical as well as a student certificate. I passed my class 3 medical a little over a week ago and applied for my certificate with the FAA right after. On Tuesday I got notification that my certificate was approved. So now, the countdown is on to Solo. I am nervous about flying without Jarrett, however I know we both will know I am ready when he steps out of the plane. I plan on wearing one of the two flight sim expo shirts on my next several flights. They cut your shirt off after you land and put it on the wall in the airplane hangar. I want to represent our community that helped me get to where I am. I hope you guys follow my progress on YouTube and enjoy the videos. I have tried to make them as entertaining and raw as I can by adding cameras and getting as much conversation into them as we can. A couple of my flights, we had gear malfunctions. One went into a screen shot mode, so I threw that footage out and the other had a bad cable or disconnected cable from my headset to one of the cameras. Without our conversations in the plane and ATC, it was not worth posting. Every other video has been worth the effort to get online. I want to thank the theSkyLounge for their help and support.   22. This Boeing 737 lost some fuel during its departure at Düsseldorf this week. Every airplane has fuel overflow vents but I have only filmed three planes losing fuel through the overflow vents within the past 15 years. It` s kinda rare to see this happen. These vents are quite important to make sure the pressure inside the fuel tanks doesn` t get too high. Especialy when the wings bend during takeoff it might happen that the fuel doesn` t have enaugh space anymore inside the wings. Too avoid high pressure inside the wings the fuel has a possibitly to leave the wings via the fuel overflow vents which is clearly visible in this video. I don` t know the destination of this Boeing 737 and I can` t tell you why the fuel tanks were filled near its limit. As far as I know the longest Boeing 737 flight of Tuijet from Düsseldorf is Sal (Cabo Verde) Thanks for watching, new videos every tuesday and friday.SOURCE

Two cockpit flights in this first episode: 1) Bell 407 flight in and around Kiev 2) An-12 ferry from Valencia, Spain to Deauville, Normandie, France An AirClips.com team was granted exclusive access to witness a horse cargo flight in three episodes. This is the first of our resulting ULTIMATE COCKPIT MOVIES showing the Airline Headquarters in Kiev, a Bell 407 Heli ride with the airline owner to the An-12 Maintenance Base of Ukraine Air Alliance, and a full ferry flight from Spain to France with exclusive outboard- and cockpit cams. A later movie will show the racing horse transportation from Deauville, France to Lapperanta, Finland. The Antonov An-12 (NATO reporting name: Cub) is a four-engined turboprop transport aircraft designed in the Soviet Union. It is the military version of the Antonov An-10 and was made in many variants. The first prototype flew in December 1957. Over 900 had been built, in both military and civilian versions, before production finally ended in 1973. The An-12BP entered Soviet military service in 1959. In terms of configuration, size and capability, the aircraft is similar to the United States-built Lockheed C-130 Hercules. Military Soviet and former-Soviet examples have a defensive tail gun turret. In the 1960s China purchased several An-12 aircraft from the Soviet Union, along with a license to assemble the aircraft locally. However, due to the Sino-Soviet split, the Soviet Union withdrew its technical assistance. It was not until 1974 that the first Chinese-assembled An-12 had its maiden flight. The Xi'an Aircraft Company and Xi'an Aircraft Design Institute worked to reverse-engineer the An-12 for local production. In 1981, the Chinese copy version of the An-12, designated Y-8, entered production. Since then the Y-8 has become one of China's most popular military and civilian transport/cargo aircraft, with many variants produced and exported. A Tu-16/H-6 bomber navigator cockpit design was chosen for Y-8 instead of the original An-12 shorter navigator cockpit design, as the H-6 bomber had been in serial production for some time. Although the An-12 is no longer made in Russia or Ukraine, the Y-8 continues to be upgraded and produced in China. The latest Y8-F600 is a joint venture between Shaanxi Aircraft Company, Antonov Aeronautical Scientific-Technical Complex (ASTC), and Pratt & Whitney Canada. The Y8-F600 has a redesigned fuselage, western avionics, PW150B turboprop engines with an R-408 propeller system, and a two-crew glass cockpit. It is unknown whether the Shaanxi Y-8 remains in production, yet many believe it will remain in production for the foreseeable future. The here seen An-12BK has an increased 30-tonne (66,140 lb) payload, improved avionics suite, TG-16M APU and the widened cargo door of the An-12BP characterized the An-12BK, which was built exclusively for the VTA (Komandovaniye voyenno-transportnoy aviatsii), a major component of the Soviet Air Force. Ukraine Air Alliance is an airline based in Kiev, Ukraine. It operates cargo and passenger charters as well as services to Asia, Africa and Europe. Its main bases are Boryspil International Airport (KBP) and Zhulyany International Airport (IEV). The airline was established on 28 February 1992 and started operations in 1993. It registered with the Ukrainian authorities as a joint stock company and was one of the first private air enterprises in Ukraine to obtain international status through registration at ICAO. The airline has taken part in UN relief flights. The Ukraine Air Alliance fleet includes the following aircraft (at January 2015): 6 x AN-12 - Registration UR-CGV, UR-CGW, UR-CAJ, UR-CAK, UR-CZZ, UR-CAHSOURCE
