  1. Disturbing news about some fundamental security mistakes in military weapon systems including the F35. I believe this is an area that major civilian aeroplane manufacturers are also trying to shore up by offering kudos (and cash?) to security analysts that highlight exploitable security flaws in tubeliners, and prevent the public from being able to access systems onboard. — Some of the most cutting-edge weapons in the US's military arsenal can be "easily hacked" using "basic tools", a government report has concluded. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) found "mission-critical" cyber-vulnerabilities in nearly all weapons systems tested between 2012 and 2017. That includes the newest F-35 jet as well as missile systems. Pentagon officials had no immediate response to the 50-page report from the Senate Armed Services Committee. The committee's members expressed concerns about how protected weapon systems were against cyber-attacks. The report's main findings were: ■ the Pentagon did not change the default passwords on multiple weapons systems - and one changed password was guessed in nine seconds ■ a team appointed by the GAO was able to easily gain control of one weapons system and watch in real time as the operators responded to the hackers ■ it took another two-person team only one hour to gain initial access to a weapons system and one day to gain full control ■ many of the test teams were able to copy, change or delete system data with one team downloading 100 gigabytes of information The GAO added that the Pentagon "does not know the full scale of its weapons system vulnerabilities". 3. The world's longest commercial flight has left Singapore for New York, beginning a journey scheduled to cover more than 15,000km in almost 19 hours. Singapore Airlines is relaunching the service five years after it was cut because it had become too expensive. Flight SQ22 departed at 15:37GMT with 150 passengers and 17 crew. The inaugural flight from Changi Airport to Newark's international airport, which services New York, took off amid much fanfare. However, Singapore Airlines told passengers before take off that their flight to Newark, while still the world's longest flight by distance, could only take some 17 hours. Qantas launched a 17-hour non-stop service from Perth to London earlier this year, while Qatar runs a 17.5-hour service between Auckland and Doha. See the link below for more from the article. — I gather here is no economy (coach) in this flight. Only business class and premium economy. 10. Mettar Simulations Release Development Update #7 After a crazy few weeks, Matt Davies has posted development update #7 over on the Mettar Simulations blog. This update is sure to hype us up with some enticing information and screenshots we’ve all been longingly awaiting. Matt says that his team have been focusing on every single project at the same time and its been working surprisingly well. The idea is for every project to interact with one another whilst remaining completely independent, he’s included a breakdown of each product and how they interact with one another that you can check out over on the blog post. POSCON has reached a development stage where it will soon be opened to their testing team which you can be part of. They’re still sorting out bugs and improving services across the board where they’ll be opening up POSCON during weekends for “open beta waves”. These waves will focus on different areas of POSCON each weekend and will allow them to properly test the network. The second most common question about POSCON is about the voice codec/quality. Take a listen to the audio clip below which demonstrates POSCON’s voice capabilities. 12. News just announced today, I did NOT see this one coming ... a possible clash of cultures; particularly moving from long haul pampering to a ‘no frills’ short haul sector. However at least this helps fix Virgin Atlantic’s lack of short haul routes (including domestic UK routes hopefully). So perhaps red mixing with orange isn’t such a bad idea afternoon after all?! What do you fellow TSL folks think of this one?? SOURCE INFO DEVELOPER POST LINK : NEWS SITE ARTICLE LINK :

  23. VATSIM Reveal New Voice Codec For a long time, many a VATSIM user has asked for a new codec which will bring better clarity and ease to using voice on VATSIM. Well, the time is now upon us and the first preview of the new codec has been shown off over on VATSIM’s YouTube channel. The video shows off some of the new features of this codec which include substantially better voice quality as well as the new blocking feature when more than one person tries to speak. The team behind the creation of this codec have been working hard to produce this new voice software for VATSIM and this video shows off the amazing work that they have been able to achieve. FSElite has been informed exclusively that we will be seeing a mass user trial in just the coming weeks and if all goes well will see a full release in a matter of weeks, not years. I was lucky enough to be able to try out this new codec earlier today and I can vouch for it being a significant improvement over what is currently used on the network. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the progress of this codec so make sure to check back at FSElite for when more news becomes available.
