  1. Orbx Update 3 X-Plane Airports By: Sam Clark January 21, 2019 Orbx forum administrator Ed Correia has just announced updates to three of Orbx's UK series of airports. These scenery packs were designed to work with their TrueEarth region packages and ties in to the idea that the group plan to convert all of their current ESP-platform sceneries to Laminar's sim. ‍ ‍ The airports receiving updates today are as follows: ‍ EGHR (Goodwood) Grass ‘friction’ bug. Aircraft should now taxi under normal power.‍ EGFF (Cardiff) Bumpy runway/taxiways reported by some users in 11.30 EGKA (Shoreham) Grass ‘friction’ bug. Aircraft should now taxi under normal power Bumpy runway/taxiways in 11.30 Sea/river water blending improved Clock now visible on airside of terminal RW06/24 imagery updated to match current dimensions. Live Flight Data Channels LiveTraffic can read from the following sources, called channels: ADS-B Exchange, (see usage Terms & Conditions) both online live data and historical files (see section 'Historical Data' here, especially the requirements!) OpenSky Network, (see usage Terms & Conditions) using its REST API LiveTraffic can even read several channels at the same time. Warnings apply, see Basic Settings. Display of Aircraft Well, yea...that's what it's all about: Aircraft 3D model as per installed CSL libraries. LiveTraffic uses the very same library (xplanemp) as XSquawkBox and X-IvAp do. Expect pretty similar behaviour. Aircraft labels (the yellow text), content configurable Basic flight modelling: LiveTraffic tries to mimic those aircraft movements, which are not transported by the flight data: Rotate, Pitch, Flare Turns (Roll yet to come, currently wings stay level) Acceleration, Deceleration Gear and Flap movement Lights (Beacon, Navigation, Landing) Landing Simulation in case no more flight data available during approach, so that the aircrafts continues its descend down to the ground, rolls out, stops, and only then vanishes. LiveTraffic is not into taxiing simulation, though... Aircraft and Flight Information Display LiveTraffic can show aircraft information and updated dynamic flight data (like position, speed, altitude and so on) about the aircrafts as shown in X-Plane (which supposingly is very close to reality minus buffering period, but LiveTraffic certainly needs to interpolate between available data points). A/C Info Window Shows aircraft info for one or more aircrafts right within X-Plane. Aircrafts selectable by transponder code, registration, call sign, flight number, and index within LiveTraffic, or Auto-selecting the closest aircraft in viewing direction. Multiple a/c info windows can be opened in parallel. Aircraft Information Window /using-lt/aircraft-information-window Data Refs LiveTraffic makes good use of X-Plane's data ref feature. Historically, this was just meant to ease my development life as I could use the DataRefEditor plugin to change the configuration and read aircrafts' status. Thus, it became the backbone of the configuration object in LiveTraffic and remains available to the outside world. DataRefs /reference/datarefs TCAS TCAS might or might not work.   4. HiFi Simulation Technologies have released further information about the first major update to their X-Plane weather engine. Active Sky XP was released back in Decemberand has since received a few small patches to fix immediate bugs with the software, however, is yet to receive any major updates. In a post on the Active Sky Facebook page, the developers detail what's changing in the incoming update: "ASXP Development Update: We are near completion of our first comprehensive update for ASXP, which includes several fixes and enhancements, in areas including turbulence, registration/login, interpolation, wx station database quality and quantity, reduction in cloud redraws when possible, and much more. Part One of the series was released back in April to mixed fanfare, due to large performance issues which have now been patched - it has now been updated to v1.7.   9. X-Plane 11.30 Is Final It’s out the door! (Steam should go “final” tomorrow morning, but you can get the final now – it’s still marked as a “beta”.) Here’s everything that happened. I expect we’ll do an 11.31 bug fix patch in the next week or two – 11.30 release candidate three was just critical fixes, e.g. fixing crashes on startup for Nvidia users with Windows 10 and the moon and stars aligned just right. Orbx Elstree Aerodrome (EGTR) Announced for X-Plane 11 Continuing the development string of airports to compliment and further enhance their TrueEarth GB South add-on for X-Plane 11, Orbx has revealed that the next airport to come is Elstree Aerodrome (EGTR) which has been announced on their forum. Elstree Aerodrome is situated 2.6 nautical miles east of Watford, Hertfordshire in England. It was first used in World War II as a small landing strip used for the overhaul and repair of military aircraft. After 1946, the aerodrome was returned to civil aircraft operations and has been used by aero clubs and private pilots for the basing and operation of single and twin-engined light aircraft. From the previews, you notice that a lot of detail has been paid to minor objects in and out of the airport perimeter leaving you fully immersed.   20. Over on the X-Plane.org forum, XCaptain has remastered his much-loved freeware Trenton Mercer Airport (KTTN) for X-Plane 11. Trenton Mercer is a small airport in the state of New Jersey, close to the Pennsylvania border. Trenton only serves two airlines, but don’t let that push this scenery away since you can always fly general aviation into the airport. Version 1.2.0 brings along some huge changes to improve the quality and bring it up to date with its real-world counterpart. You can view the complete changelog at the end of this article. You can grab a hold of XCaptain’s Trenton Mercer Airport (KTTN) over on the X-Plane.org forum for free. It is only compatible with X-Plane 11.   21. Nimbus Simulation Studios have been working on the Huey since early March, however, it has seen little spotlight since the release of Chicago O'Hare (KORD) V3. The project appears to be back on track, however, with new previews posted on the group's Facebook page. The military utility helicopter was used by the US Army and Air Force during the war in Vietnam, with over 7,000 iterations of 30 variants deployed there. ‍ "Taking the Huey out for a spin at St. Barts (TFFJ)" The previews that surfaced today are of the UH-1 Iroquois flying around the Caribbean island of St. Barth's, which Nimbus developed scenery for. They show a relatively complete helicopter, with functions such as the weight & balance menus being previewed for the first time. As stated in the post, the new ERJ from X-Crafts is going into beta testing very soon and they need new beta testers for this. As places are limited, and only a few people will be selected, X-Crafts is looking for people who are effective, reliable, engaged, and who have previous experience beta testing. As of yet, no information has been given on release date; however, typically beta testing means that the product is near release.
