  1. 218 Dear friends, The Spring has come and in today's Dev Blog, after some delay, we're returning to our main project - Bodenplatte. This delay in the news has been caused by the fact that during the Winter all the work on this project was made at a deep level - it was hard to make a screenshot of something - but it was a hard work nevertheless. This was known beforehand and planned this way. If you were following us for some time, you may recall that such visible pauses in the development news in the middle of a development cycle happened in all our previous projects and are a result of the effective work and division of labor. But today we finally have some intermediate results to show, and there a lot of them. First, we can disclose more details about the map of the project. Previously we mentioned only its size and location, but today we can tell you more information. There will be more than 200 settlements of various sizes. Air forces of the opposing forces will take off from more than 100 airfields. The total length of all roads will exceed 20000 km. The reachable zone of the map is 129859 square kilometers (400.8 x 324 km) while the entire map is 176947 square km (460.8 x 384 km). The preliminary list of the cities we plan to have ready at the time of release follows: Antwerp The Hauge Liege Frankfurt am Main Dortmund Münster Cologne (Köln) Bonn Gent Rotterdam Charleroi Amsterdam Düsseldorf Aachen Bruxelles Arnhem Duisburg Essen Apeldoorn Maastricht Again, if you have followed our development before, you may notice that the parameters of the new map are breaking the record once again. This is also the first map to be released with all four seasons simultaneously - a hard challenge for the entire team. To be able to complete the project before the set deadline without compromising quality, our Lead Map Artist Evgeny Isaev has found new methods of development and large cities creation. Also, Evgeny has designed artistic approaches that will not simply repeat the visual quality of the previous maps but will also give players a new visual feel that is characteristic for flying over Western Europe. But enough words, it is time to show you something new - on these screenshots you can see the central areas of Bruxelles, Liege, and Köln: But these map development news are not the only ones we have. We can show you the progress we have made on the three coming planes: P-38J-25 heavy fighter, B-25 heavy bomber (AI only), and Me 262 A jet fighter. For the first one of them, P-38J-25, we have used a new approach of creating the exterior and interior 3D models in parallel, not subsequently - at the early stage the model is divided into exterior and interior parts and the coordinates of their seams are stored, then both models are being worked on simultaneously to be connected back at the final step. This aircraft, of course, is unbelievable, what can we say - it's a legend: The B-25 bomber will be AI-only in this project, but we'll try to make its exterior 3D and physical model at the same quality level as our player controllable aircraft. First, this is important for those who will be attacking or defending these planes in the Career mode, campaigns, single scenarios and Coop multiplayer. Second, who knows - perhaps a possibility to make it flyable will reveal itself in the future: The exterior 3D model of Me 262 A "Schwalbe" is completely done, including the official skins. The interior (cockpit) model is almost done (currently the artists are working on its texturing), while our engineers are working on its FM and the physical model of a jet engine. When you look at this legendary aircraft, you can't help but think that it was ahead of its time: To finish today's Dev Blog, we would like to congratulate the beautiful half of humanity on the coming holiday - International Women's Day. Dear girls, be happy! You can discuss the news in this thread SOURCE INFO DEVELOPER POST LINK : https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168-developer-diary/?page=6&tab=comments#comment-724465 NEWS SITE ARTICLE LINK :
  2. This is an interesting post on the Orbx forum, it confirm's that P3d v4.5 is about to enter beta, and it will help with long load times, it doesn't seem that long ago since V4.4 released, LM seem to be working hard on the Sim. For those of you that are CityScene users, especially Orlando, I have some terrific news to pass on today ! Background It has long been known that flight load times on FSX and P3D systems gradually start to slow down as more and more 3rd party products are installed. The load time increases are especially noticeable with products like CityScene Orlando, which has hundreds of thousands of custom object models. Since the release of CityScene Orlando, we have been trying to address the issue on 2 fronts: 1) Bring the issue to the attention of the P3D developers at LM, with the hope that this is something they can address in the future. 2) Work on our own end to provide more scenery configurations available to the user for improving load time, memory and performance tweaking. Of course, while #2 can help, it appeared that any real benefit for now and the future may need to come from #1. P3D Today I received some exciting news from Adam Breed at LM. We have been communicating over the last few weeks regarding the load time issue with large scenery packages, when a user has a lot of Object Libraries installed from 3rd party addons. The developers at P3D have identified the anomaly that has been causing long load times for large scenery packages, with lots of custom models, like our CityScene products. An enhancement has been put into place and will be released with the P3D V4.5 beta that should be out in about a week. As we expected, this anomaly/bug has been present going all the way back to FSX. But, it is just now showing up with larger scale, more detailed scenery products (i.e. CityScene). Keep in mind that while this enhancement will help all products, it will be especially beneficial for large area coverage products with lots of custom object models. Autogen buildings are not custom models and the enhancement will not affect those types of products. There is no release date set for P3D V4.5. It has not made it to beta testing yet. I can't thank Adam Breed and his team enough for looking into this issue in an expedited manner. I think it really shows their commitment to this industry and the quality of their work. A vast majority of our customers are running P3D v4. So, this is just great news. But, what about FSX and P3D V3 uses ? CityScene Orlando Patch For the last few weeks we have been looking at general optimizations and alternate configurations that could help FSX and P3D V3 users. These alternate configurations could shorten load times by about 3x - 5x for some users without making any scenery layer changes (like turning off the Orbx Libraries and other scenery packages). The main enhancement we are making is the ability for users to toggle whether or not they want Custom Object Models to be used for residential buildings or Autogen Buildings. Switching to autogen buildings (houses only) will reduce the detail and precision somewhat. But, it will help load times on those that will not be able to take advantage of the load time enhancements currently being made for the upcoming P3D V4.5. The CityScene Orlando patch will also fix the reported loss of Jetways at KMCO. The patch is expected to go to beta testing in the next few days and will hopefully be released in a week or so. So, there is a lot of good news to pass on today. I am especially excited about the internal optimizations being made to P3D V4, as this will have a big impact regarding all the new CityScene products we have planned for development. Special thanks to those customers that provided the great feedback regarding the load times. Cheers, Allen Kriesman SOURCE INFO DEVELOPER POST LINK : NEWS SITE ARTICLE LINK : https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/167793-terrific-news-for-all-simmers-especially-cityscene-customers/

  7. So, want more xEnviro news? Update 3rd of September: Weekly Update: (WORK IN PROGRESS!) Today we have closed two most important items in our roadmap, both related to the cockpit camera and both responsible for numerous visual artifacts. Finally we are moving over to our new cloud system, volume rendering, final atmosphere tuning and testing. Yup, were on the home stretch. Its a long home stretch but the mountains of two steps forward and two steps back then falling, getting hurt and stand up marginally further than where we fell.... is over. The largest hurdle in our journey to the noise rendered volumetric clouds is behind us. Say goodbye to the horizon shift slider height limitations of 60k feet and a couple of other things, say hello to zoom, volumetric clouds and an atmosphere that calculates the sky color correctly ? Thank you Ben Supnik for the answers we needed. So... here are some more shots from the latest progress. I'm excited! Back to work! DCS: Yak-52 Released on Steam This week we moved the new DCS World Open Beta content to the Release version. In addition to adding the Yak-52, other important changes include: Steam Store Trailer video The Yakovlev Yak-52 is a tandem seat, radial engine, trainer aircraft that served as the primary aircraft trainer for the Soviet Union and many other nations. Introduced in 1979, the Yak-52 has been a popular choice among air forces given its rugged construction, ease of handling, tricycle landing gear, and simple maintenance. These same characteristic have made it a popular civilian aerobatics aircraft in its later years. The Yak-52 is powered by a single Vedeneyev M-14P, nine-cylinder radial piston engine with 360 horsepower. We have created a new radial piston engine simulation from the ground up with a highly-realistic engine cooling model. The aircraft is very response given an empty weight of just one ton and large controls surfaces. Capable of pulling over 7 G and pushing up to negative 5 G, it’s no wonder the Yak-52 has been popular with aerobatic teams around the world. The DCS: Yak-52 provides a realistic pilot training progression from the Yak-52, to the L-39C jet trainer, to modern fighters like the MiG-29 and Su-27. Key Features: Professional Flight Model that duplicates the flight characteristics of the Yak-52 Detailed and realistic simulation of post-stall behavior that allows edge-of and out-of-envelope maneuvers Complete systems modeling of the Yak-52 that includes the engine, fuel, electrical and pneumatic systems Realistic, mouse-interactive cockpit in which almost all controls can be interacted with Accurate external and cockpit sounds that were recorded from a Yak-52 Interactive training missions included. 14. Update from DCS about v2.5 bug fixes and a helicopter sale... = DCS World 2.5 Update Since last week's newsletter, the team continues to address items discovered during the Open Beta test period. Items such as fog discoloration, night lighting, multiplayer performance, load times, and others are all being addressed for the release version. It is very important that any changes made for the DCS World 2.5 release version maintain or improve game performance of the 2.5 Open Beta. Since the DCS World 2.5 Open Beta release, we have released three Hot Fixes. You can read their change logs on the DCS forum. Once we feel that all the significant issues of the 2.5 Open Beta have been resolved, we will then release the DCS World 2.5 installer and update to DCS World 2.5. DCS World Helicopter 30% Off Sale Continues Our DCS World helicopter sale will end on 19 February 2018 at 0900. One of the biggest benefits of DCS World 2.5 is that it's a much better environment to fly helicopters. The higher-resolution terrain elevation mesh, higher resolution terrain and object textures, much improved trees, huge forests, and trees that now have collision / block line of sight for weapons, all create a much more engaging and beautiful environment to fly in. 15. Great news! Now Skyline and ORBX work together to convert ORBX sceneries for X-Plane 11! Skyline Simulations (formerly Icarus Simulations) have announced that they’re teaming up with Orbx to bring their famed sceneries to the X-Plane platform. In a very brief post on their Facebook page, Skyline Sim announced the collaboration with one simple line: Great news! Now Skyline and ORBX work together to convert ORBX sceneries for X-Plane 11! The announcement means that Orbx join an ever-growing list of traditionally P3D developers that have realised the potential for their products on the X-Plane platform. Most notably, HiFi Sim announced their intentions to bring Activesky to X-Plane during a presentation at FlightSimCon last year. News surrounding that has been scarce since the announcement, but you’ll surely agree that 2018 is shaping up to be a big year for the X-Plane community. FSElite has reached out to Skyline Sim and Orbx for further comment, and we’ll let you know if we hear anything more SOURCE INFO https://fselite.net/news/skyline-simulations-team-orbx-bring-orbx-products-x-plane/
