  1. Aerosoft Announces Manchester (EGCC) For X-Plane 11 Over on the Aerosoft forums, the team has announced that they are bringing a brand new version of Manchester Airport (EGCC) to X-Plane 11. It was made clear that this is a brand new development and not a port of their original X-Plane 10 version. Very little other information was shared, however, a few screenshots were released showcasing the projects current development status. 2. SouthWings Releases Additional Previews and Information for Ivalo X-Plane SouthWings has treated us to some brand new previews and information for their upcoming Ivalo (EFIV) scenery. In a Facebook post, SouthWings gave us some more previews of the scenery. Its certainly developing well and looks near enough complete. The developer stated that they hope to release the scenery in just a few days. SouthWings announced that the scenery now features fully custom ground textures and runway markings. Also addressed was the lack of background to the scenery due to incompatible satellite images. When one becomes available they plan to add it in a future update. View this email in your browser HotStart TBM 900 v1.1.6 Update Comment Please Read... Hello Stephen, Earlier this morning we released v1.1.6 of the TBM 900. Some customers began reporting to us they were still getting v1.1.4-c installed regardless of how many download attempts they made of 1.1.6. We have identified the problem here and corrected it. Please re-download the new installer and run it to ensure you have 1.1.6 properly installed. IMPORTANT FOR MAC USERS! You must first ensure you have ejected any DMG files associated to TBM installers before running the new one or you will receive component not found errors during download and install! We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and hope you will be able to enjoy a weekend filled with TBM flying! Click here and login! Simply re-download your original purchase. Here's what's changed in version 1.1.6: Improvements / New Features: Implemented new LOC guidance code to work around the need to set CDI to front course. Implemented YD phaseout with airspeed. Added multi-threaded rendering support for synthetic vision. SYN VIS should now be much cheaper on performance. New rain effects using async compute. Available only on Windows & Linux. Mac gets the old rain effect. Implemented the "Vertical track" audio message. Made SYN VIS horizon headings more readable by adding darker outline. Redesigned steering force control logic to better handle centering forces. Bug Fixes: Steering had a confusing delay on it, which made for difficult directional control. Turning on NAV or STROBE lights should disable red wingtip beacons. Overspeed should come on at 269 KIAS and turn off at 268 KIAS. Reverse numbers should be 27-35 trq, 1850 rpm, Ng 85%. Gear manual extension rates were incorrect. WXR-related crash during resumption of previously interrupted flight. "FMS LFE" should be automatic upon FPL entry on the ground. Pushing Go-Around should put the HSI back into GPS mode. Replaced aural_warn_test and gear_warn recordings with cleaner samples. Implemented OVERSPEED aural message. Force the avionics_on dataref to 1. When we had the A/P override set, unset it if the CDI mode changes. SYN VIS north horizon heading should be 360 and sub-100 headings shouldn't have a leading '0'. SYN VIS airport loading could fail sporadically, resulting in missing runways. SYN VIS old method of computing airport label placement was broken. AIRAC cycle 1904 was mislabeled as 1304. Make sure GL_BLEND is enabled, because in X-Plane windowing context it sometimes isn't. Bezel drawing didn't work in popped-out windows due to X-Plane swapping in a different OpenGL context. X-Plane 11.32r2 seems to have broken our Vertex Array Object processing, so we have to work around that. As always, thanks for purchasing from X-Aviation! 9. DMO is working on the final stretch of their S-64 Skycrane for X-Plane and they are bringing us some new intel on the model. As the team moves near the release of the S-64 (no release date yet, folks – keep it cool; the team’s hard at work), we got access to some more exciting details and screenshot of this amazing beast of the skies. Most of the work being done right now has to do with small details and improving the 3D model and the textures but DMO is already working on some of the scenery they promised to release to give us a better sense of purpose for the S-64. We will have a ski resort, a remote firefighting helicopter base, a firefighting crew in need of assistance and a flatbed truck loaded with HVAC units near a tall building. Aside from that, DMO has modified the water drop system (which they had working already – you can see a screenshot at the top of this article) to use the new particle system which is looking quite amazing! DMO mentions it as being “the pièce de résistance of this model”. I was dying to see a developer doing this and, now, DMO brings this to the giant of the aerial firefighting. Thank you! The particle system is also bringing the turbine and APU exhausts to life as well as any engine fires you might have. DMO says the model is not too far away from being able to be fully tested. After that, I presume it’s a matter of time (and some debugging) until it can become a part of our virtual hangars. Stay tuned, folks. This one should not be too far away! 11. Does PMDG Need X-Plane More Than X-Plane Needs PMDG? Saturday, February 23, 2019 marked a major turning point in the history of PMDG: we saw the ESP giant discontinue further 32-bit development of new product lines.Although, in the course of two separate forum posts, little direct reference was made to X-Plane, an interesting opportunity to analyse their future on Laminar’s platform presents itself. It is well known that the next major product out the door at PMDG will be the third iteration of their 737 product line. Although the product has not received an official name yet, it is referred to internally as the NG3, and, according to Randazzo, is about to enter beta testing in short order. It is widely believed that the product will be largely analogous to the 747 Queen of the Skies package and would thus contain most, if not all, of the existing 737NG variants, with a later 737 MAX expansion on the cards, as is known with virtual certainty from earlier reveals. Randazzo hinted that the 32-bit discontinuation would free up some much-needed developer resources, which would enable them to shift their attention to other, parallel developments such as X-Plane releases. It is interesting to note, however, that if PMDG were to release the NG3/MAX for X-Plane, they would be hopelessly late to the party. We already have several good options for this airplane, such as the freeware Zibo modification, which already has 70 to 80% of the feature set of the NGX, with a MAX to follow. This does not bode well for the NG3 on XP, especially given the price point at which it would likely be sold. Nevertheless, Randazzo has stressed that PMDG will indeed appear on X-Plane, so it will be interesting to note the order and timeframe in which the products will be released. "We already have several good options for this airplane (the Boeing 737), such as the freeware Zibo modification, which already has 70 to 80% of the feature set of the NGX" Given the existence of freeware options, PMDG is likely to initially focus their efforts on products other than the 737, such as the 747. Even there, they would not be alone given PSX exists. It is X-Plane compatible with ease, and offers much deeper features, albeit at a slightly higher price point. Still, it is with little doubt the most detailed representation of its subject matter on the market, for consumers anyway, unless one takes into account the absence of a 747-8 option of course. It may, in fact, be the case that the 747v3 was primarily designed as a platform for the 747-8, which was known to be the big seller – Randazzo has himself admitted that the latest glass-jets make the most financial sense, and, as such, any further classic releases from them should be considered side projects. Considering its ensuing retirement from airline fleets worldwide, with BA likely to be the last passenger operator in about 2024 after 40 years of service, the 747-400 could itself be considered a classic, at least in passenger operations. When I met with Lufthansa representatives in Frankfurt last autumn, they commented that the 747-8 would be kept in their passenger fleet for the foreseeable future, with the 777X being looked at as a replacement. In parallel, the 747-8 should be a keeper in X-Plane also. PMDG's current range of Boeing airliners for Prepar3D, excluding expansion packs. This takes us to the 777. Although there is at least one worthwhile XP rendition in early development, and another in rumoured development, here is where I see the best entry point for Randazzo’s outfit. For the purposes of this essay, the first version of FF’s 777 should be considered outdated. Given the stature that the 777X will likely occupy in tomorrow’s commercial aviation market, it will be interesting to see whether PMDG has considered a strategy analogous to the 747v3/NG3, and offer a 777v2 with 777X as an expansion. Equally intense rumors have surrounded a potential PMDG 787: this is a product we might not see on ESP because of QualityWings’ offering, but that remains an option with regards to X-Plane. It would certainly satisfy their current criteria for choosing new projects. A different question entirely, however, remains whether this community actually needs PMDG at all – we have a plethora of “native” developers with more arriving on the scene on a daily basis. Multiple of these should be considered capable of taking over the market niche occupied by PMDG on ESP, such as FlightFactor. It is also interesting to note that Robert Randazzo has used some quite strong language with respect to the X-Plane community. This could be taken as implying that we do not represent a priority for the company at the moment. A case in point is their negligence with respect to updating the DC-6 for XP11, and despite comments to the contrary by Randazzo, it remains possible that our community will occupy a secondary position in their portfolio. Additionally, many of the payware development projects currently in progress for our platform more or less directly disrupt the PMDG portfolio – the SSG 747-8i v2 is a good example. Altogether, it is clear that PMDG will have to act soon instead of Soon™ if they want to gain any foothold on this part of the market. Otherwise, there will be no free seats for them at the table. Orbx arrived on time – what about PMDG? 13. EGTH Old Warden is located near Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. We have tried to capture both the history and natural beauty of the airport and surrounding area. Almost every single object seen in the real airport has been accurately modelled and positioned, allowing you to immerse yourself in a realistic flight simulation environment. Old Warden and the Shuttleworth Collection is a private aerodrome and operates unlicensed. The Collection is situated at Old Warden Aerodrome, one of the few traditional all grass aerodromes still in regular use. The Shuttleworth Collection depicts the history of flight from the early 1900s to the 1950s and shows how the airplane operated in the pioneering years. It was rapidly developed through necessity during World War I, was used for sport, pleasure and business in the 1920s and 1930s, and once again became a fighting machine in World War II. Development on the upcoming X-Plane version of the EFB appeared to have begun after the release of version 2 for FSX and Prepar3D in July of last year. The EFB is Aivlasoft's flagship product and combines with either Navigraph Charts or Aerosoft NavDataPro to give users the full flight navigation experience. Also featured are detailed interactive ground charts and live weather displays (when fed data by Active Sky, FSGRW etc). In a post on the Aivlasoft forums titled "Beta tests for X-Plane 11.30", the developers say; No further information is available as of right now, however, the transition from internal testing to the beta phase likely indicates a release not to far in the future. 16. At the beginning of the year, a newly formed company derived from iniBuilds, iniSimulations came out to announcethat they are developing the Airbus A380-800 for X-Plane 11. They’ve benevolently shared some exclusive previews of their upcoming superjumbo with us. Originally, iniBuilds was created with the intention of being a “flight sim hub” – a primary spot for them and other members to showcase their work such as Tomatoshade profiles, GSX Level 2 profiles and more to the community. Now, iniBuilds has grown into a position where they are able to take their business ventures to the next level thanks to the users of their work. Consequently, at the beginning of the year, they decided to create iniSimulations – an extension to their original company. iniBuilds intends to remain a community-driven freeware hub for all types of tools and tricks to enhance one’s flight-sim experience. iniSimulations, on the other hand, is signifying their flight sim add-on ventures. This is where they came out to announce that they are developing the Airbus A380-800 for X-Plane 11. These previews showcase iniSimulations’ A380 cockpit in-sim and the exterior model in their 3D modelling program. These shots are highly work-in-progress with extensive work to be performed and do not represent the complete product. Along with the previews, iniSimulations have also presented us with a short video previewing some of the basic functions of the A380 flight management system in-sim, again, this is highly work-in-progress and does not represent the complete product. A release date has not yet been confirmed but, the team has established that development is progressing and is ahead of schedule. They intend to announce a further update in the next couple of months. To learn more and to stay on top of iniSimulations’ latest updates, visit their website: inisimulations.com.
