Orbx have released the initial list of Points of Interest to be included in their upcoming TrueEarth Washington scenery pack. TrueEarth Washington will be first in a range of sceneries spanning the Pacific Northwest, the first of which is due in Q2 this year. Suggestions on which Points of Interest (POIs) to include in the Washington region scenery were largely made by the community this time around, in stark contrast to the behind-closed-doors process for the group's smash hit TrueEarth Great Britain series. Orbx welcomed suggestions on which landmarks people would like to see via a thread on their forum, where users would attach a Google Earth .kmz file with the location of the Point of Interest. In a post on the suggestion thread, Lead POI Coordinator of TrueEarth Regions Byron Farrow posted the following; Also included in the post is a screenshot of the included POIs as of the time of posting. Closeups on the Seattle metro area, plus an overview of the entire state. You can learn more about upcoming TrueEarth USA regions by visiting one of our previous articles, which details potential release details for the Pacific Northwest sceneries. Download the new POI list for yourself over on the Orbx Forum. Please Note: In-sim screenshots used in this article are from Orbx's TrueEarth Great Britain series, as now are available for the US series at time of writing. Proceeding on from their triumphant X-Plane releases, Orbx has released their much-anticipated, much-teasedTrueEarth Great Britain South for Prepar3D v4. TrueEarth Great Britain South is a comprehensive overhaul of Southern England & South Wales’ in-sim scenery traversing a noble 107,349 km² of ortho-imagery, autogen, hundreds of points of interest and more. Orbx declares to have developed new technology especially for Prepar3D v4 to give this scenery a real-world feel which allows for building shapes to be positioned correctly to flawlessly align with the ortho-imagery – no more rectangular shapes joined together to ‘fake it’. Furthermore, Orbx’s rendition of Southern England features 130 million trees at their correct height and location, sharp and detailed 10-meter mesh, an accurate road and rail network blended in with the scenery and more which can be found in the thorough features list at the end of this article. You can grab a hold of Orbx’s True Earth Great Britain South over at OrbxDirect for a price of $54.95 AUD (Incl. VAT)exclusively for Prepar3D v4. Is X-Plane more your style? Well, TrueEarth GB South has already been released for X-Plane 11 and you can grab it over at OrbxDirect for a price of $54.95 AUD (Incl. VAT). Features 42,000 square miles (107,349 km²) of hand-corrected, crisp, colour-matched aerial imagery Accurate building shapes to precisely match the ortho imagery footprints 130 million trees at the correct height and location 13.2 million buildings at the correct height and location VFR landmarks such as masts, wind farms, churches, power-lines, castles, stadiums and lighthouses are all accurately placed. Hundreds of custom-modelled 3D POIs Hand-placed and custom modelled landmarks placed throughout the scenery such as bridges, skyscrapers, castles, piers, and monuments – this is especially noticeable in city areas such as London and along the coast. Sharp and detailed 10-meter mesh brings out stunning detail in natural features such as hills and beaches Superb water masking along the entire coastline Accurate road and rail network blended into the aerial imagery with moving left-hand drive traffic. As TrueEarth development continues, Orbx is dropping further details on their upcoming TrueEarth US projects and beyond. In particular, John Venema has detailed which areas we can expect work to be developed and also the inclusion of new PBR models and cityscapes. So far, John confirmed, over 800 points of interest (POI) 3D models are planned for Washington State alone. These objects will be created using the latest PBR technology. Furthermore, there are plans to include many PBR cityscapes as well within these North American TrueEarth projects. The same details will also be included in further American TrueEarth projects in the future. In the past, we’ve heard that Washington, Oregon, British Columbia and California were to be released as TrueEarth products in the future. John has now broken that down into the areas we can expect: PNW Washington – Seattle, Bellevue, Everett, Tacoma, Olympia, Spokane, Victoria BC PNW Oregon – Portland, Eugene PNW British Columbia – Vancouver, Richmond, Surrey, Nanaimo Northern California – San Francisco, Alameda, Silicon Valley, San Jose, Oakland, Sacramento Southern California – Los Angeles, Hollywood, San Diego, Santa Maria, Long Beach Further to that, John also shared what future projects may look like. There are plans well into 2020 for TrueEarth projects including New Zealand South and North, Spain, Austria, Norway and New England Martimes. All of the information can be found via the Orbx forums. There are already a variety of TrueEarth projects available for Prepar3D, X-Plane 11 and Aerofly FS 2. As of right now, the plan Orbx are considering is to release 2 different versions of the product: TrueEarth GB South LOD15 Summer Edition TrueEarth GB South LOD14 Seasons Edition Since it was announced that the planned intention of releasing TrueEarth Great Britain on Prepar3D without seasons, there has been a lot of community feedback regarding that decision. Because of the amount of data that would have to be distributed, it would’ve cost Orbx far more than the cost to the consumer to distribute such a large portion of data amongst the community. Understandably, this wouldn’t have been good business sense from the developer. However, John V took to the forums today to give a more detailed explanation into why this was the case and that the team has been discussing various options to both deliver for the community and also the business needs. The first thing John did was break down what comparing 5 regions would look like if they had all 5 seasons in the current LOD15 quality. TE Region Size in Sq Miles Size on Disk Netherlands 16040 72GB Great Britain 80823 360GB Washington 71362 320GB Oregon 98466 440GB California 163696 730GB TOTAL 2TB John said that by delivering 2TB of data to thousands of customers would “pretty much bankrupt Orbx” – nothing any of us would want to happen. It’s also worth remembering that Orbx allows for free, unlimited downloads for life, which again would add to the data distribution costs. As a result of wanting to listen to the community, but also protect the business, John put on the table a couple of options and want the community to comment on them (with constructive thoughts). Option 1 – Simply, to release TrueEarth Great Britain as it was intended. So with LOD15 (LOD15 is 1.2m per pixel*) resolution and summer seasons only. Orbx Trees will also work with TrueEarth, so seasonal trees will appear throughout depending on the time of year. Some previews of that are below. SPRING SUMMER FALL WINTER SPRING SUMMER Option 2 – Option 2 will compromise on some of the quality, but allow the team to create a seasonal texture package, and still be within reasonable file limits. Instead of LOD15 detail, Orbx would reduce to LOD14, but will include 5 seasons into the texture set. This would make it the same size as a LOD15 set overall. This is thanks to how P3D can compress BGL images. Below, you can see the difference between LOD15 vs LOD14. John said in his post that the differences are discernible at 500ft, but at a usual VFR altitude of 2,500ft, it’s hard to tell. LOD15 LOD14 As of right now, the plan Orbx are considering is to release 2 different versions of the product: TrueEarth GB South LOD15 Summer Edition TrueEarth GB South LOD14 Seasons Edition Both will be the same price, but Orbx will offer the 40% cross-grade discount between the two. The plan is people can decide which is more important to them as a simmer, and either choose to install one or both – switching them on/off as required. As mentioned at the beginning, Orbx are keen to get your feedback on this, so please head to the forums and give them your constructive thoughts. Orbx seem to be on a preview run with TrueEarth Great Britain South for P3D right now as two new preview threads showcasing the product were created over the past couple of days. Both threads were created by screenshot-extraordinaire Iain Emms and cover various parts of land TrueEarth GB South will cover. The screenshots below include parts of Wales and other scattered areas across the South of England. In one forum thread, both Ed and John from Orbx confirmed that TrueEarth GB for P3D will not feature seasonal texture variation. The reasons include that it would hugely increase the amount of data you would need to download (around 250GB), additional development time and further imagery data. As a result, only Summer textures will be included with the release of TrueEarth Great Britain South, which was unlike TrueEarth Netherlands which included 5 season textures. On 9 december John Venema started a Poll on the Orbx forum to check if the Flighsim community is interrested in a partly release of ThrueEarth Netherlands XP. The reason for this is that a full release wil take at least an other year which is related with obtaining Ortho imagery for the border area with the 1-degree ortho tile limitation XP11 has as stated in the original post The problem is obtaining ortho imagery from Belgium and Luxembourg. Also the covered area would be more a BeNeLux scenery (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) This same problem would also occur for the USA regions and the Canadian border since Canadian Ortho imagery seems extremely expensive Qoute from post Because of the 1-degree ortho tile limitation of XP11, we have substantial ortho imagery to license for Germany, Belgium and even France if we want to release the entire country. That said, would you be interested in buying a TE Holland region for XP11? That would extend from Amsterdam NE to Groningen. We would price it around AU$29 (£16, US$21, €19) because of the smaller size. The attraction is the ability to do flights from Amsterdam to UK major airports whilst staying within TE regions. This would be the coverage area: Image of entire problem SOURCE INFO DEVELOPER POST LINK : https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/164319-poll-trueearth-holland-for-xp-now-versus-te-netherland-a-year-away/?tab=comments#comment-1447012 NEWS SITE ARTICLE LINK
Orbx Update on TrueEarth Ireland/Northern Ireland In response to a question on the Orbx forum, John Venema has provided an update on how TrueEarth Ireland/Northern Ireland is coming along. John has said that a large chunk of Northern Ireland ortho imagery is on the way to Orbx which will actually be a part of the up and coming TE GB North rather than being standalone like the FTX region. As for the Republic of Ireland, John mentions that their ortho provider is nearly finished with flying the imagery zones with their aircraft and is waiting for them to supply the imagery. It’s not known when the imagery will be supplied so work can commence on the Republic of Ireland although it is estimated to be mid-2019. Just like the United Kingdom series of TrueEarth add-ons, Ireland will eventually be compatible with Aerofly FS2 and Prepar3D. We don’t have much more information on TrueEarth Ireland/Northern Ireland, however, we will endeavour to keep you updated. Orbx Netherlands TrueEarth Aerofly FS 2 Previews Orbx has said time and time again that 2018 is the year where all the research and development will start to come to fruition. Part of that process was releasing their new technology which has been named TrueEarth. The first in a long line of TrueEarth products is Netherlands. We reviewed it a few weeks back for P3Dv4, but today, Orbx wanted to preview the technology but this time in Aerofly FS 2. If you don’t know what TrueEarth technology is, it’s a blend of photoreal terrain and more traditional scenery development. Meaning that buildings, vegetation and points of interest match up perfectly to the photo ground textures. SOURCE INFO https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/157687-netherlands-trueearth-coming-to-aerofly-fs-2/ https://fselite.net/previews/orbx-netherlands-trueearth-aerofly-fs-2-previews/
Orbx Netherlands TrueEarth FSX and P3Dv1,2,3 On Hold Sad news for those of you that were holding out for Orbx’ Netherlands TrueEarth for FSX and Prepar3D version 1 through 3. Unfortunately Orbx have had to make the decision to put this release on hold and instead focus on versions for AFS2 and XP11. According to a post made by John Venema on the Orbx Forums, the sim runs fine with this addon using default aircraft. However, as soon as more complex GA aircraft or airliners are used the sim is just not able to handle it and will run out of memory, despite a lot of effort from Orbx to make it work. He goes on to state that though they have not yet abandoned all hope, they don’t want to waste too much resources on this though issue. This also means that no other TrueEarth addons will be brought over to older simulator platforms as Orbx will need to get it to work in the first place. However, despite the TrueEarth addons not becoming available for these platforms, future airport releases can still count on 32 bit support.
