  1. VSkyLabs Releases Revolution Mini-500 Helicopter By: Sam Clark January 20, 2019 VSkyLabs, experimental aircraft experts, have released their latest project for X-Plane 11.30. The Revolution Mini-500 is an American single-seater chopper and is unique in that the owner must construct the aircraft from a kit-set before flying it. This is VSkyLabs' second successive helicopter release following the Guimbal Cabri G2 in September.   2. VSKYLABS, X-plane 11.30 and the Experimental Flight Model mode... Hello VSKYLABS user! This is an imporant notification for the upcoming X-Plane 11.30 VSKYLABS, X-Plane 11.30 AND THE EXPERIMENTAL FLIGHT MODEL MODE: X-Plane 11.30 will introduce the Experimental Fight Dynamics mode, which will allow to fly planes with the evolving 'next generation' X-Plane's flight dynamics model. The Experimental Flight Model mode will be optional, and users will have to select using it by enabling it through the General Settings menu in X-Plane. The Experimental Flight Model is, as its name is indicating, an experimental flight dynamics environment which will allow Laminar Research to develop X-Plane's next-generation flight dynamics model in the real-time environment of X-Plane. It will be developed and evaluated throughout several versions of X-Plane 11, right until it will get into a 'stable' state. It is prone to changes, therefore is not considered as *stable*. Meanwhile, while having it as an option for users to test in X-Plane 11.30+, it is allowing aircraft developers to evaluate and test their models extensively, mapping the needed changes and have them ready for the time in which the experimental flight model will become *stable*. The experimental flight model mode is available also in the current X-Plane 11.30 beta version. VSKYLABS has started to test and evaluate its projects with the experimental flight model mode, as preparation for things to come. The experimental flight model mode is prone to changes and updates and it is not considered as *stable*. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED NOT TO USE THE EXPERIMENTAL FLIGHT MODEL MODE ON A REGULAR BASIS, BUT ONLY FOR EVALUATION PURPOSE. In the meantime, bug-reports for this environment will not be addressed on the practical level.   10. The Guimbal Cabri G2 is a light two-seater, french piston engine helicopter. VSKYLABS made a very detailed recreation of the aircraft, with extensive use of all XP11 technologies for rendering (PBR, reflexions etc) as it has been fully created for XP11. Flight model also takes advantages of a fully XP11 development (expect no VRS simulation -Vortex Ring State - though, XP11 doesn't provide that effect fully fonctionnal yet...). The model is fully Vr compatible without any addon, with AviTab compatibility. VSKYLABS Aeropro EuroFOX Project v5.1b1 (29th July 2018) New Update The VSKYLABS Aeropro EuroFOX Project is under constant development, and it is now having a MAJOR UPDATE RELEASE to version v5.1b1 What's in this update? It is a ***MAJOR Flight Dynamics Model - maintenance update*** And it is featuring also an Experimental-STOL-MOD to the existing A220-STOL variant. Update main features: Upgraded to the 100hp Rotax 912 ULS engine (all variants). Re-designed propeller physics (all variants). All-aspect flight handling and flight characteristics maintenance (all variants). On top the Flight Dynamics Model thorough update, the A220-STOL variantwas updated with a modified wing, which features a fixed-leading edge wing-slots, and enlarged Flaperons to improve its STOL characteristics. It is not a 'super-STOL' aircraft...but it has the ability to perform steeper approaches at 60-50 mph, thus improving its practical short landing performance. In general, all variants are a bit more powerful, a bit more dirty, with a less "slippery" potential behavior when flying/gliding at low-rpm settings and with Flaps deployed.   14. The VSKYLABS Aeropro EuroFOX Project update v5.0b1 was just released ! The project is 'a project under development', currently featuring 3 variants of the EuroFOX (A240/A220/A220-STOL). v5.0b1 is a major update release which was needed to bring the longstanding project to utilize X-Plane 11 recent features, preparing it for the future. The VSKYLABS Aeropro EuroFOX Project v5.0b1 was already 'VR ready', and now it is including a vrconfig file which defines X-Plane 11 'Realistic Yoke' feature for the VR touch controllers. This feature is allowing the stick to be operated with the touch controllers like a real stick of its type. The aircraft is now including a basic, LSA-grade Autopilot system, animated doors, improved textures and improved internal engineering to set up the foundations for the continuous update plan.   17. VSKYLABS Previews Rutan LongEZ Project Developer VSKYLABS has dropped some more information on their Rutan LongEZ project, one of their major releases for 2018. In a post on their Facebook page, the developer gave information on their upcoming home-built performance aircraft for X-Plane 11. Built by aerospace legend Burt Rutan in the 1980’s, the aircraft features superb performance and economy through the use of the Continental O-200/115hp engine. The aircraft promises to have ‘superb flight dynamics and authentic aircraft performance and handling characteristics’. It will also feature the ‘high performance rudder mod’ and ‘Roncz canard’ mod. The VSKYLABS Scheibe SF-25C Falke Project - Introduction The VSKYLABS Scheibe SF-25 Falke Project development for X-Plane was approved by Scheibe Aircraft GMBH (although it is an independent VSKYLABS project which is not endorsed and/or affiliated with/by Scheibe Aircraft GMBH). The project is featuring the SF-25 C variant (Falke 2000), which is equipped with an 80 hp engine, driving a two-blade wooden fixed pitch propeller (alternator and electric starter are included). As in all VSKYLABS Projects, aircraft performance, flight dynamics, and handling characteristics are the main core of the project. More than one hundred hours of pure flight dynamics testing and evaluation was made to bring this aircraft to maximum accuracy in terms of performance and handling qualities. Designed for Virtual Reality experience The VSKYLABS Scheibe SF-25C is the first VSKYLABS design to include a dedicated VR (Virtual Reality) development phase in the design and development process. The aircraft is featuring a fully-configured and functional control suite which is optimized for VR functionality. This means that the cockpit can be operated with maximum comfort and fluency using VR controllers (for 100% VR usage of a stick, throttle, spoilers, switches, circuit breakers, levers, handles etc...). The VR development process in this project was made with the native VR environment of X-Plane 11.20 (beta). Note #1: In general, In X-Plane 11 itself, Rudder control solutions for VR are currently lacking and/or missing. This particular aspect is undergoing evaluation at VSKYLABS and It will be addressed in the first scheduled update for the package. Note #2: In order to use and enjoy VR environment in X-Plane, user hardware and system specs should meet the required specifications for OS, CPU, GPU, MB and RAM which are specified both in the given VR hardware websites and at X-Plane.com. FMOD sound suite. The Scheibe SF-25C Falke The Scheibe SF-25C Falke is a German touring motor-glider which flew for the first time in 1963. The two-place powered sailplane is featuring a low wing configuration, an 80hp engine and side by side seating. High performance in its operation range, easy handling, robust construction, reliability of both airframe and engine are the main features of the SF-25C Falke. It has very easy and pleasant flying characteristics and is docile when stalled. The aircraft has good soaring capabilities with either one or two persons aboard. Takeoffs and landings are easily performed, and effective wing spoilers (air brakes) are provided for effective glide angle control. Good ground handling characteristics is provided with a steerable tail wheel, and visibility is excellent through the blown plexiglass canopy. The SF-25C Falke is a classic motor glider and it is well known as a trainer in clubs around the world. To have some practical idea regarding the aircraft, down below are some performance facts of the Falke, taken from the Schiebe Flugzeugbau GMBH Flight Manual of the SF-25C Falke (May 1990 Edition). This manual and the procedures within are all specified in the Manual and Instruction Section of the project's pages. The Falke can taxi unaided and is steered on the ground with the tail wheel (biased to rudder control). The main wheel is featuring a braking system. Minimum airspeed for level flight is 43 knots (50 mph), and the best cruising speed is about 70 knots (81 mph). Maximum cruising speed is 81 knots (93 mph). The Falke can be landed with the engine either running or stopped. The approach is at 49 knots (56 mph), and the glide path is being controlled by the wing spoilers. With spoilers extended the sink rate at 49 knots is approximately 3.7 m/s (~720 feet per minute). Minimum touchdown speed is 38 knots (44 mph).The Falke has been flight-tested for take-offs and landings in crosswinds up to 13 knots. Landing run is about 300 feet and can be reduced effectively by the main wheel brakes (which is operated by the spoilers control on the last part of its travel when pulled fully back). Flying as a glider (with the engine stopped): The aircraft handles very well at 43-51 knots (50-59 mph) with a sink rate of about 1.2 m/s (~230 feet per minute) in a straight flight. Flying the aircraft in X-Plane (as in real life) is a rewarding challenge, as it requires a very clean and coordinated flying. With a little practice and accurate flying, very good thermal climbing is achieved. Range and endurance: with a 55-litre fuel tank (14.5 US gallons), flight duration may exceed 5:15 hours, covering ~680 km (~422 miles). With 80 liters (21.1 US gallons), flight duration could reach 7:30 hours while covering ~975 km (~605 miles). Cockpit panel layout: The SF-25 panels are very much different from aircraft to aircraft, having the panel itself taller or shorter, with a variety of avionics combinations. You can find a really...really messy front panel, with switches and gauges scattered around without any logical order, but you can also find more ordered and uniformed configurations too. Same goes to avionics - from almost GA standard to almost a minimal glider type configuration. The VSKYLABS SF-25C is having a custom, simple Motor-Glider style of a cockpit configuration, as I'm finding the aircraft most interesting to fly as the avionics features drop down, with a "Minimum requirement" analog panel. I am very proud to introduce VSKYLABS major project for 2018: The VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project Introduction The VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project is designed especially for Virtual Reality (VR) experience in the rich and detailed 3D environment of X-Plane flight simulator. Along with an advanced and comprehensive Flight Dynamics and systems simulation, it is including a high-definition, fully animated representation for both the exteriors and interiors sections of the Solar Impulse 2 aircraft. It is a fully operational virtual Solar Impulse 2 aircraft simulation in which the round-the-world flight paths of the real Solar Impulse 2 aircraft could be recreated with realistic flight dynamics characteristics and relevant operation and mission-related considerations in the amazing, dynamic world of X-Plane. Although highly accurate in every aspect, for some of the real-world Solar Impulse 2 technologies and systems, the VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project will not include a 1:1 detailed simulation, and it is to be replaced with a comprehensive and plausible solution featured within the detailed systems and avionics simulation of X-Plane. The VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project was acknowledged by 'Solar Impulse'. However, it is not affiliated with the Solar Impulse foundation. Project's Genesis - The VSKYLABS 'Conatra-Ventus' I've always been fascinated by renewable energy and clean-Earth technologies, especially when it is combined with aerospace and aviation applications. As a thrilled enthusiast of the Solar Impulse project, I've decided to make my first experimental steps in better understanding some the challenges and aspects of designing and flying a 'Clean Energy' efficient aircraft. I derived its general aerodynamic design features from the MIT human-powered, record braking aircraft - the Daedalus 88, along with the implementation of electric power propulsion to execute periodic powered climb-outs and unpowered descents, using the propeller's windmilling to re-charge the batteries while soaring in the skies in prolonged glide periods (practically using wing energy which is a "conversion" of the potential energy gained in the powered climb). The design concept was to experiment and research the practical idea of electric powered flight coupled with wind energy utilization for a 24 hours battery cells charging capabilities. The 'Contra-Ventus' is more of a concept demonstrator and educational tool for experiencing some of the fascinating aspects of Energy management, aerodynamics and flight envelope limitations. Getting deeper - The birth of the VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 project I was so fascinated with the outcome of the 'Contra-Ventus' project in X-Plane, and right after completion and many enjoyable exploration sorties, I felt ready to begin my experiments and development of a more complex electric-powered simulation model in X-Plane. It was the Solar Impulse 2 aircraft. It was a completely self-learning and experimenting, "backyard" development effort which lasted, in-and-out, for almost two years now. Time went by and I found myself having a pretty advanced project in my hands. X-Plane 11 was released along the way, and up with its updated versions that included a more thorough electrical systems simulation definitions for me to explore, I made additional progress. The Virtual Reality "Knock-out" trigger While developing the VSKYLABS Scheibe SF-25C Falke project, X-Plane 11.20 came into the picture with its native VR capabilities. The development of the SF-25C turned its focus on VR design and usability. I was so impressed with the VR experience! As a Solar Impulse enthusiast, I was very familiar with an inspiring video in which I saw so many times, called: "Solar Impulse 2: An Exclusive Insight into Life Onboard | WIRED" in which Dr. Bertrand Piccard (the initiator and co-pilot, with André Borschberg, of the Solar Impulse project), explained how he lives and operates the Solar Impulse 2 as he crosses the Atlantic ocean during a 5-days flight. It was clear that I must NOW take my "backyard" project of the Solar Impulse 2 and get it done ASAP in order to virtually (VR) be able to sit in the Solar Impulse 2 cockpit with a fully detailed and interactive 3D environment while crossing the virtual Atlantic ocean in X-Plane! I made contact with the Solar Impulse foundation and got the approval to proceed with my project as a VSKYLABS design model for X-Plane, bringing the excitement of using, understanding and "feeling" the Solar Impulse 2 aircraft and its mission out in the open. Project Schedule This project had changed some of the priorities in the VSKYLABS planned road-map for 2018, pushing down some planned projects to be waiting for its completion. February 2018 will be dedicated to updating the entire VSKYLABS fleet with VR capabilities, and to complete the VSKYLABS DC-3/C-47 Flying Lab Project expected update for version v2.7. The main focus in March/April 2018 will be channeled to the VSKYLABS Solar Impulse 2 Project. The 2-years project is already in a pretty advanced stage, so hopefully, I expect its completion and release around April 2018.   22. The Scheibe SF-25 Falke Project is almost ready for release to the X-Plane platform, German touring motor-glider which made its first flight in year 1963. Equipped with a 65 hp engine connected to a wooden two-blade propeller. The dynamics, handling and performance is what’s been focused on in this project which has resulted in nearly 100 hours to make sure it meets those requirements. Aircraft will be made in three different models that which are equipped with analog panel, artificial horizon, NAV instruments (VOR/ILS) etc. It also comes with support for the G1000. Now only the flight manual and instructions are left to do. To follow the progress visit VSKYLABS website where you can find a lot of information and more beautiful screenshots. Though the minimum requirement is with an analog panel which of course gives the pilot the most challenge. Also the complete paint-kit is found at that website.   25. Great news! New updates are available for VSKYLABS Aeropro EuroFOX Project v3.7 (20.11.2017). Current version is now v3.7 (20th November 2017). This update is non-scheduled and was triggered to encounter some engine issues which were detected during X-Plane 11.10 beta versions testings. It is a minor update in terms of new features, but a major update in terms of internal engineering and preparation for the upcoming updates. Another aspect of the update is that from version v3.7, support for X-Plane 10.51 was ended. The VSKYLABS EuroFOX is now ready for X-Plane 11.10, and in the near future will be updated with the scheduled plan.
